HELP! Help me design a post / column at the beam!

I have a bit of an odd beam situation in my house. I have a higher level and a lower level beam supported by a post at the transition. A peninsula will be under the lower area of the beam, whereas the higher area is open. These two openings will end up as cased openings (see the red lines I drew on the photos to show that) The post travels down into the floor (obviously!) and the granite from the island will surround the post on 3 sides and be flush with the post on the 4th side. We are having white shaker cabinets installed, and I would like to turn this post/column into an attractive design element keeping with the shaker style. BOTTOM LINE - We can't figure out how we can trim it out at the beam! Any ideas? Below you will see two photos looking at it from two sides. I also attached

a couple pictures of posts I like that I saw on Houzz so you get what look I'm going for...just can't figure out how to make it work here! Thanks!
