Comments (3)I wouldn't buy it for the simple reason you cannot see the water. The reason I love my Rainbow's soo much is because you get to see that wonderful water washing action. I saw it first when I was about 12 years old and have been facinated with the concept ever since. Guess I was raised a Rainbow man! Justin...See MorePellet inserts - which one, where?
Comments (6). Just like anything else; pellet stoves run the gamut in regards to quality. They are meant to product clean heat; not to make pretty, flickering flames. They are based upon buring a relatively small amount of stuff at at time; with a pretty healthy blast of air running over them . . optimizes combustion and result in very little ash. Doesn't offer the traditional, aesthetic dancing flames that seem to be so appealing to us humans. Quality of the pellets can be pretty critical; not only their make-up; but their moisture content. The more moisture in them; the more of the heat they produce goes to boiling away the moisture in them. Hard to know what you're getting, hard to control once you've got them. As far as irritation of your lungs from smoke; no matter what you burn it should NOT be getting into the house . . so no matter how clean the stove does or doesn't burn; keeping it out of your house is a separate issue. ANY of the pellet stoves I've seen burn VERY cleanly when decent pellets are used . . . and they can toss a lot of heat. How much "heating" effect you'll actually get will also be impacted by how fast you lose heat from your house . . . if it's reasonably tight / efficient / insulated; you'll see a big impact. If not, pellet ( or any other ) stove will NOT have a big impact. Know that the glass on them may not stay very clean . . . some designs are much better at "washing" the clean air over the glass leaving it clean . . . others don't do so well and you end up with smoked glass . . . I'll suggest forget aesthetics of the flame from your list of concerns . . if you want that, buy something else. I'd also be a bit skiddish buying one online, sight unseen. They all look / sound good . . . to me, seeing a potential purchase up front is important. It would also be nice to know that any service needed would be available through the place you buy it from . . . . Bob...See Morewould you like to see something gross?
Comments (14)Great responses. Ohiomom... I remember when green and purple ketchup came out. We got the green version. I must have been 17 and I tried it on some scrambled eggs. It was TERRIBLE, even though I'm sure it had the exactly the same ingredients as the red stuff. I agree that presentation/appearance IS very important to the interpretation of taste. I think that it looks like something the dog ate and then reproduced. Sue, you must have the same cheese product. It isn't terrible. The best part of the meal was the tortilla chips (I want to go out and get some cheddar dip to finish them up, I never allow myself to buy chips at the grocery market so when someone else brings them it's a special treat). He apparently has a few vintage appliances (hair drier, coffee percolator, and alarm clock )so I was having fun showing off the vacuums... I thought the waffle iron would be a nice touch. I was wrong. Pancakes would have been much easier. I hate cleaning the waffle iron yet and wanted to put the entire thing in the dishwasher. If they would put removable platens on the the waffle irons and George Foreman grills (HATE, sorry, strongly disllike that thing!) it would be great. We did laugh a lot, and the waffles somehow got made and eaten AND enjoyed. Thanks for the advice, Woodie... where were ya last week? Too late now! Maryanne, I have heard of holding out. People actually do it? I'm brave enough to venture outside of my social shell maybe once every three or so months to meet a new guy and see what happens... I tend to make it "all or nothing" when I do. Usually all, unless their teeth are crooked. Thanks for appreciating my humor :o) I didn't even think of making a game out of it and having people guess! If no one played along I'd have been offended!...See MoreIf someone asks you to buy something do you think....
