Need help updating this 70's home exterior.
Comments (20)We have since put new siding on the house. And trying to find a nice light colored paint color. I've decided against painting the stone. To me, it's just not as pretty as painted brick. I want a fresh updated look. Any ideas? Would love to change/update the exterior somehow, but can't think of any way we could add any architectural features. I will post pix with the siding (not painted yet, so the yellow is just the primer color)....See MoreThoughts on updating exterior 70s home with paint.
Comments (35)Since you already have a grey roof and new grey concrete, I would choose grey to match the existing colour of these two elements for garage doors and around the windows area. The gold windows trim looks good, so I would paint all trims and wooden elements of the house the same colour, including the garage beam and the garage frame (they are red-ish on my screen). I would put wood siding vertically above the garage beam to match the colour and stile of existing fence and trim (see pic). The same for the gable above the windows. It would give you more interesting look with additional texture. To enhance the contrast, I would change the lanterns to modern and black ones. The entrance might be stained or paint with fresh bright trim-fence stain/colour and the grey paint around....See MoreExterior Design & Color Help (2-storey Half Brick - Half Siding)
Comments (8)Ha, ha. Aluminum siding really is wonderful. The only reason we painted ours was because it was a horrible color, that fake redwood color. So very dated even 20 years ago. You should probably power wash the siding. Once the shutters are down, I'm sure their prior location will be noticeable since it will have no dirt underneath except for those bugs who have built their home there over the years (at least ours did). We were told that the only reason to replace aluminum siding was if the wood underneath was rotten due to water damage. If you don't have any leaking from your gutters, you are probably okay. If you ever do replace it, take it to a scrap yard for $$....See MoreHelp with exterior update for 70s orange/brown brick ranch.
Comments (21)the gutters would look so much better in a copper color, especially w/that Jade color. anyway you can get them painted (or don't know if you're getting new ones) you could do the bronze/copper, or a brighter copper, address numbers and copper window boxes (You can order copper sheeting and make these yourself. or just paint a copper color. but the real stuff patinas w/time. I have a roll of super thin real copper. it's not difficult to work with) for the front door, I'd do the jade color, or even a lighter jade. If you don't want green on the trim, How about one of these Bronze colors? for the garage door I think any of the 3 would look nice some other color palettes...See Moresuezbell
