Design thoughts on re-vamping unique 70's ranch exterior
Comments (5)No to a carriage style garage door, and consider replacing the front door. Neither match the style of the house. Use similar brick and build out columns on each side of entryway to support soffit and roof once the horizontal beam across top is removed. Columns will be stained to match front door and garage door. You want to stain the brick columns? Somehow put a film or get new etched windows to hide the view into the garage from the tall slim windows on the front left of the house. The bottom half of the windows could be solid -- no glass, top an obscure glass. Put a horizontal board on the bottom and top of the siding to look more finished (most wood siding houses have them...ours didn't for some reason. Either trim color or same color as siding. Board on top OK, leave off bottom. Paint house trim and gutters a darker color....See More70’s Colonial Home Update
Comments (2)OP: " I have just been unable to find anyone that an assist with transforming the style of our home. " Not to state the obvious, but have you contacted any architects? Columbus OH is a large city. There must be many architects there. You are considering major structural changes to the house, including its footprint. You are not looking for a designer, you need an architect....See MoreExterior paint ideas 70s modern house
Comments (12)I really like the color it is, but understand not wanting the pink tones. I’d stay in the brown family, and keep the brick as is. It’s organic and in keeping with the surroundings, which is important with this style architecture. If you haven’t already, do some research on this wonderful style of house … embrace it’s heritage. It’s a really nice one. :) Unfortunately, too many across the country are disappearing under heavy ”updates”. (I don’t mean you’re doing that, just the current trend of trying to remove the ’70’s charm and history of these homes.)...See MoreExterior update on split level 70s house
Comments (6)I think split level/split foyer houses look better if the brick and siding colors are very close, so you're already there with the siding color. If it's not quite right I can't really tell from the pictures. That's something you have to judge in person. If the siding was darker it would make the house look top heavy and emphasize the different finishes. For me this isn't desirable, but maybe others like it. As the other commenters have said, the shutters are unnecessary and need to go. The garage doors could be darker, not white, and windows in garage doors always look better. An imitation natural wood color or something leaning brown would look nice with the brick and siding....See Morehousegal200
