I‘m glad you’re hesitating. I would not paint the stone, but rather, paint the siding a darker color. Change the garage doors (if that’s planned) or at least the hardware on it, get new, larger lights. Paint the downspouts to match the predominant color of stone behind them.

What other changes are you planning upon? I might add another vertical batten to the areas that have a wide expanse between them. I feel that dates the house quite a bit.

Since all that stone appears to be an add on I would remove it it in no way enhances the house and painting it will not help.I think a mix of natural cedar and a darker siding would be a huge improvement I Usually love stone but not this .This sort of mix with the cedar replacing the stone.

No, the stone was not an add on. It was built that way in 1977. So removing the stone is not an option.

Patricia, we are planning to get new siding- horizontal lap siding. And also getting a new roof and guttering, so lots of decisions to make it look nice.

I agree, pick a darker color for the siding, that is close to the coloring of your stone. Paint your garage door the same color as the house. Your house will look fantastic.

Also thinking it would look nice to add shutters to windows.

I agree with others that painting the house a darker color would make the stone less prominent. But I'm also not opposed to painting the stone itself... maybe a darker shade of whichever color you use on the house itself?

Beverly, I had look at that option. We are having someone do the painting. Not sure of the cost to apply the lime wash, or if they'd be willing to work with it.

We have since put new siding on the house. And trying to find a nice light colored paint color. I've decided against painting the stone. To me, it's just not as pretty as painted brick. I want a fresh updated look. Any ideas? Would love to change/update the exterior somehow, but can't think of any way we could add any architectural features. I will post pix with the siding (not painted yet, so the yellow is just the primer color).

Yes, that is the direction I believe we'll be going...a taupe color, actually.

Sure love the modern off-white homes we see in new construction...not so much the white farmhouse, though. Any knew ideas as to a good off-white color that will pair well with this stone color? Thanks
