Help me figure out how to "eat" healthy with smoothies
Comments (27)Protein powder (whether whey, rice, soy, etc.) is actually highly inflammatory. You can add gelatin powder with it, or instead of it, to balance the inflammatory protein. When I use unflavored whey protein isolate powder (something I use in gluten-free and low-carb baking, or in a smoothie) I also add some gelatin (usually Great Lakes Collagen Hydrolystate - in the green box - which does NOT gel - and dissolves in cold, warm, or hot liquids). I add this same type of gelatin to hot beverages (cocoa, flavored/herbed tea) for an easy "delivery system". Gelatin provides pure protein of low molecular weight that is quickly absorbed in the digestive track. Gelatin balances the inflammatory protein make-up of both protein powders and muscle meat. Back when everyone ate meat that had bones and cartilage with it, not just lean boneless/skinless cuts of meat, there was gelatin/collagen included naturally. When I serve lean cuts of meat I'll make a quick pan sauce with concentrated homemade bone broth (which is loaded with collagen/gelatin), seasonings/herbs, and a pat of butter to thicken it; or I'll include something made with gelatin in the meal/dessert/beverage. For this I use the kind of gelatin that gels (Great Lakes in the orange-red box, Bernard Jensen's, or NOW brand) and might make: Pumpkin Mousse, Paleo Horchata Jello, Gut-Healing Herbal Tea Gummies, Gut-Healing Gummy Snacks, High Protein Gelatin Power-Cubes, Coffee Jello, Creamsicle Gummy Fruit Snacks....all kinds of good-for-your-gut gelatin recipes. They make good snack food, too. Much better than reaching for junk food loaded with sugar/salt and empty carbs. Gelatin is very soothing for "tummy" troubles - but start slowly because adding too much gelatin too quickly can cause gas/bloating. So try 1/2 T. a day and work up. Add it to a hot beverage or make some sugar-free Knox Blocks (I make them with fruit flavored water kefir) and enjoy them. Want a quick dessert using gelatin? Mix one small box of fruit-flavored Jell-O Gelatin (or other brands - sweetened or unsweetened - your choice) with 1-cup of hot water (use a bowl/container that will hold at least 2-1/2 cups). Stir until melted. Add 1-cup of yogurt (or drained homemade kefir curd for even more good bacteria). Mix well. Chill until the gelatin is set. NOTE: Lemon-flavored gelatin in this simple recipe will taste like lemon pie filling (top it with some homemade granola). :-) -Grainlady...See MoreNeed help figuring out if this counter selection will work
Comments (16)Thank you all! My3dogs- fantasy brown was my first choice! I was convinced by a stone seller it’s not true quartzite and will scratch and chip so i moved on (reluctantly). Have you had any issues? The soft greens and creams in it i love. The Brandon rug is currently in the adjoining living room. The house is not open concept so it’s a different room. It will be visible though so i was trying to bring out that sagey green color and incorporate it throughout the adjoining rooms. The white is a done deal cabinets are complete. It didn’t look cool to me in person but i plan on grabbing a door on my way to revisit the slabs so i can really compare. The color is called designer white if that gives anyone insight?...See MoreYou all dislike my kitchen layout. Help me figure it out :)

Part of the value of this site is that a lot of people can "see" what you're trying for from a sketch. Sometimes, it's worth asking what the rules about stuff like water and an outside wall actually are. Like, you may not know that you can have a sink on an outside wall, but you might not want pipes INSIDE the wall. And that's ok, cause the sink is in a base cabinet and the pipes don't have to be in the wall. If someone starts yammering about a vent to the roof, you can use one word to silence them. That word is Oatey! They make an in-cabinet mechanical vent. I would not worry about how the water gets to the ref. It's just a tiny copper tube and is flexible it can snake through the toe kicks of cabinets or through floors or walls.. I would try, on paper at least, is doing a double sided-island without stools. Put cleanup on the outside long side, consider a prep sink on the inner side. Put a MW near the ref, possibly in the island. Maybe add a hutch, bar thing using 15-18" deep cabinets on the wall of the dining area instead of the kitchen. Then you have the entire outer wall cabinet run for the range, pantry and ref. As @mama goose_gw zn6OH said, try the ref on the short wall, using the long wall for pantry/range. Kids can go to the dining table with a plastic table cloth. Works well and you get all of the kitchen space to be kitchen. With your original plan, you'll mostly be facing away from the kids anyway. This way, with your main prep on the island, you won't be fighting not to ruin their homework and you'll spend more time facing them. You could use the space that was going to be coffee/cabinet pantry to be a step-in pantry with relatively narrow shelves on the potty wall and deeper ones on the short side....See MoreI would love to figure out how to add a big porch but the entry
Comments (0)I just purchased this home, The driveway is 45 ft long and originally I wanted to add on to the garage and bring everything forward, in order to utilize the unused space, but I would b blocking the windows. The entry sits so far back and looks awkward to me. It’s a split foyer so I’m not sure that I could even bring the entry to sit even with the house but I would love to add a nice porch as well. I need help with ideas....See MoreDesign Interior South
