help! need to select counter top and sink/faucet asap
Comments (2)I am having a lot of anxiety over this area and am really hoping for some guidance from all the experienced and gifted posters out there - please! We decided on absolute black honed for the counter - now need to decide the thickness. This dining room butler's pantry in the expanded dining room was suppose to appear like 2 independent furniture pieces. KD's goal was nothing like a kitchenette (or the adjacent kitchen) so he did not want 10 feet of a counter - hence the brown "china cabinet" piece steps back from the black "buffet counter" BUT he also planned for the counter heights to be different. The china cabinet has a thick (almost 4") of a wood slab between base and uppers. And he planned for 2 cm for the buffet. I know it is hard from these pictures (I'll try to get by there to get better ones today) but if we use 2 cm granite as recommended by the KD there will be only like 3/4 of an inch difference. If we use 3cm it could be shimmed up slightly to line up with the base of the routed edge on the dining room piece and seem in line. I don't want the 2cm to look like a mistake - a just miss BUT if the design with the step back already commits us to "mismatch" pieces I don't want to do it half way. HELP. I am at the end of a long line of too many decisions and just want this done and moving forward. Any help, suggestions, questions etc. would be GREATLY appreciated....See MoreNeed cabinet color/counter top help
Comments (19)terrilynn, I am confused about what to do for the island and also the desk/coffee bar/bar area. I'm going back and forth on wood or soapstone for the island. I'm pretty sure I want wood on the desk and soapstone on the bar/coffee area. (just for maintenance purposes). I'm not sure if I do the base colors on the other areas the same as the island or different. We aren't doing any stainless except for the range, but that desk is pretty cool! Lavender, thanks, and I love the idea of red accents. I hadn't really thought that far, but that will be perfect and will blend with the rest of our house. I guess I need to figure out if I can really do the painted island and how much maintenance that will be. Here are my options, in case anyone else is as confused as I am: 1. Wood colored island with soapstone top 2. Sage/light green island with soapstone top 3. Sage/light green island with wood top Desk: something with a wood top....I'm thinking base should match the island, unless of course the island base is wood tone, and then it would either match the yellow cabinets or the coffee bar area. Coffee bar/bar: definitely soapstone top- either yellow cabinets like the rest of the kitchen, green, or wood colored. I'm even confusing myself, so if anyone is following this, I'm impressed, and thank you for any thoughts!...See MoreSOS... Can't figure it out... help with kitchen countertops
Comments (8)According to [the designer[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/sherwood-forest-residence-kitchen-and-dining-transitional-kitchen-toronto-phvw-vp~5663062) the countertop is Giallo Ornamental Granite. Do you have the floor chosen yet? Also, at least a picture of the cabinets would help (since "cherry cabinets" could be a range of different colors). What is your layout like? As for other options for countertops, I would try googling "cherry cabinets counters" and start browsing and ~saving~ examples of kitchens you like - then you can see what is common in the pictures to get an idea of how you'd like your kitchen to look. Much better than strangers telling you things with no guidance (i.e. I can't stand the travertine tile look - so I would never suggest it, but maybe you love it - so without that knowledge, it's hard for us to help you)...See MoreOur counters need to be swapped out - how much work is this really?
Comments (35)It is natural on a new and just paid for ANYTHING, to search for 100% perfection, however you define it. It's also possible to screw up half a house in search of it. I have vivid memories of a first meet at the home of a potential client: Blue tape "spots" all over the new floor, just as many on the walls, a hang tag still on a brand new sofa, ( a 64th of an inch variation in the hang on the skirt...) , "I can't remove the tag, we're in litigation on that with the store" , blue tape on a deck at the tub and a single tile with a hairline crack 1/4 long in a far corner under the window , get the magnifying glass!!!.......a curtain maker/ installer in tears with a 32nd of an inch variation in a hem, bawling in the bedroom. Know what I did? RAN FOR MY LIFE. I ran like Forrest Gump.......and I never even glanced back. Horsing around with that top, won't change the quality of the food prepared on the cooker, won't change the wine enjoyed with friends at the island, and won't be thought of beyond the first month of cooking perfect, or imperfect meals in that kitchen. Bet me on that : )...See Morekim k
