Refinishing bedroom set, need advice on where to start
Comments (2)I am not an expert by any means but I have painted a lot of furniture in my house. I would prob lightly sand the chipping areas. I have limited use of chalk paint. I did chalk paint a few chairs and my dining room table. My tabletop was very shiny so I lightly sanded it and then I primed it. I used the chalk paint on top of the primer and then a coat of poly. It has held up fine for over 4 years now. When I paint I usually use just regular off the shelf paint from Lowes or Home Depot. I just painted my entire bedroom set. I did no sanding at all. Just a good primer, painted with Behr regular paint and again a coat of poly on top. Hope it turns out well!...See MorePainters started job. 1 bedroom and tiny bathroom, cost $2300
Comments (6)We had our four bedrooms (walls and trim in all rooms plus ceiling in master, total of around 600 sf) painted last year and paid around $3000, which included light prep work (spackle and sand in a few places, but the walls were generally in good shape) and two coats of Benjamin Moore paint (no separate primer necessary). The painter had to do four coats in one room where we had chosen a lighter color, which was a small upcharge ($150, I think?), but he had warned us that might be the case upfront when we decided on the colors so we weren't upset about it. We got three quotes and went with the lowest one, although the others weren't too much higher. ALL of the painters we contacted specified exactly how many coats of what brand of paint and how much prep work they would do in their quotes, so we were able to compare apples to apples. Do you have a written contract specifying number of coats, etc. with your painter? This is in Westchester County NY, where prices are high, so unless you are in an equally expensive market, your costs seem pretty high, especially for shoddy work....See MoreDecor Bedroom issues. Comments (15)My bed is black I’m sorry the pictures are not the best quality. I am actually planning on putting an area rug between the bed and dresser as well. Also my budget would probably be less than 400 for the dresser. I have never seen the spine book shelf but I will definitely consider it. Not sure if room will allow it though...See MoreWant a nice bedroom but don't really know where to start!!
Comments (4)Exciting times and all the best. You may want to go on line and create a room planner with the exact dimensions and include structural components like doorway, etc. Then play around with furniture placement. Agree that organization is a priority and try a dresser in closet to give you more floor space. A bookcase would be handy/not take up a lot of space. I’d look for a desk chair that is comfortable, but also suitable for extra seating when needed. Try Marketplace for inexpensive pieces. Accessorizing room to reflect your personality will bring it all together and keep it light, so room feels larger....See MoreMary McKenna
