What should I do with curtains in this main floor master bedroom?
Comments (6)Hi hcc1027- Cats are curious and will crawl through whatever window coverings you have. If you try to sleep late, they will awaken you, so no window coverings will completely solve that problem. You do realize that it is their house, and you are just the hooman they tolerate because you open the cans that contain their food, right? :) But back to the window covering issue. You can get "blackout" curtains which do not refer to their color, but to their ability to block out light. The curtains should be lined and have interlining, and be the correct size and be mounted appropriated. They should be double the width of the window. Please see this article for how to hang curtains- https://fredgonsowskigardenhome.com/2011/05/03/the-right-way-to-hang-curtains-and-drapes/...See MoreHow do I decorate a pale pink bedroom with red and green
Comments (4)Judging by the bed, you've made a great start. That's a good shade of red. I think the addition of the taupe/beige is important -- red and taupe always look very French to me -- and I think if the green you use is a very dark green, and then used very sparingly, it will work. Where else in the room were you thinking of adding/using red and green?...See MoreHelp decorate apartment for a male
Comments (23)@Aphaea Yes mame I could try my best to type what I am thinking haha so please bare with me. Right now I am looking to get rid of my current bed linen for something more dark and modern. Ill post an example photo of what I mean. I kinda want to make it more masculine for myself but I also want to bring more of a cooler toned and dark look to my bedroom with my linen. I also have to be careful in regards to making it look right with my current rug I have under my bed. I would really like to add possibly two lamps on the end tables of my room. Maybe add in something that can help store some of my books? The statues you see in the photos I would like to move so try and picture it without them them. Not sure if I want lamps that hang over the bed or on the end tables. I would like to add a huge photo behind my bed. I would like to add something on the wall next to my bed. For the living room I would look into adding some curtains or drapes? I would really like to add some floating shelves. Maybe some corner shelving for books or display? I want to bring my tv down more to eye level. I plan on selling my TV console and replacing it with something better but that's for the long run. I would like to add some display for my coffee table and end table. Maybe add a rug for my living room? It really depends what it would look like. I really want to add more photos and display for the overall apartment but I always end up hesitant due to not being able to visualize what it would look like prior to buying. Hope this helps....See MoreOVERWHELMED! What do I do with this huge Master bedroom?
Comments (14)One thing I've learned from the pros and other talented decorators on this forum over the 15 years I've been visiting is that scale matters a lot. When you have a room the size of your master bedroom, you need some substantial furniture (and art, etc.) to make the design work. This was a very important lesson for me to learn, as my house before I was married was a very small bungalow. Everything I brought from my previous home looked silly and dwarfed in the home my husband and I moved into. My art looked like postage stamps tacked to the walls. I didn't know how to decorate in large spaces because I had never done so before, and I always preferred modest, simple furniture and art so it look me years to embrace the larger spaces. But once I did, things started looking a lot better. I've found places to use some of the sentimental items I couldn't part with (in bathrooms, kids' bedrooms, small guest room, as part of gallery walls), but some things just don't work in the larger spaces. Your bed, though very pretty, is probably one of those things. We have a California King in our large-ish master bedroom and it looks great and fits the scale of the room. Find some large art you love too. I'm sure the pros will have better advice, but just wanted to chime in as I went through that same frustrating phase you are in now. Good luck!...See MoreMatthew C.
