Comments (13)MG - We recently switched from a commercial-grade DSL account that came with lots of server space, which we used for one web site; we were also able to serve several more sites from our home using a little linux computer - an old PC. I've moved all of those sites - some have gone to pro web design-host outfits, one (a band) moved to MySpace, and one (local league of women voters) is being hosted by Network Solutions (that's the main registrar for domain names). Garden photos, which I used to slip into one of the little non-profit sites that were on our home server, are now on Google's Picasa server (highly recommended for ease of use). I also have a blogspot blog - that's another Google thing - which I completely neglect most of the year. It's easy to insert images stored at Picasa onto blogspot pages. The blog format takes a little getting used to, and it's not perfect for everything, but is a great way to store things like short articles....See MoreUPDATE: Getting to know you, Monthly Trade Group
Comments (62)Where is everyone? Did your garden gates get locked, LoL. I wanted to apologize for sounding so harsh in my earlier post. I usually just let things like this go, but for some reason, this time, I just didn't. I know things happen. This month has been an extremely stressful one, and I let it get to me and didn't handle this situation right. Do we know if this swap will continue for July, or will it be on hold, or canceled? I know Kelly is having a pretty rough time of it right now. Maybe we could all pull together and keep this going so she has it to come back to when things calm down. We could all post if we would like to swap this month, and then we could pick our own partners. Maybe we should post a simple wish list. That way, it would make it easier to choose as we might have some of the plants in our gardens that another is looking for. Am I making any sense here? LoL. Well anyway, post your thoughts on this. Comments (5)I feel your pain. Suggestion: try allrecipes.com,,they have some collections like Xmas extra with all of it together. That might help and you can do an advanced search where you put in name of recipe or main ingred you want or don't want in a recipe,,that could help you track down some lost stuff. Plus I like that they are rated and people tell how the dish turned out,,what improvements they made etc. I can bring up bread pudding without raisins or if I have extra bananas on hand I pulled it up using bananas in the bread pudding and got hits there too. About.com in their food section has some wonderful recipes that I've made for years and lots of collections too. Now you got your work cut out for you in deciding....that is the hardest part you know. I hope you have a great first hosting experience,,,just remember, it's just one meal,,this won't make or break a persons life. Why don't you ask some that are coming to "bring your favorite XYZ dish" to help you out? I've done those,,"I'll do the whole thing dinners" and by the time I'm thru, I'm too tired to enjoy it,,I'm broke and say I'm not doing this again. Or, how about ordering some stuff from Honey baked ham or whatever. Take advantage of Costco, they have great appetizers you can pop in the oven. I'm just thinking out loud here. Have a good one. Comments (4)Sounds like fun. I used to go to picnics in Griffith Park with a group of Cordon Bleu students, and it was totally potluck and once no one brought bread, except for the calzone that I made, and that was eaten as bread. I was friends with the professor, who is a French-Algerian chef, born in Paris to Algerian parents, but he lives in Los Angeles now. We did not have themes. I like the Pioneer Woman but I've never made any of her recipes exactly, but I make a lot of things that are similar to what she makes, especially the SW style ones. I do not cook for crowds (as a rule), and so my style has to be different....See Morebpath
