Not enough contrast. The gray would have to be warm (more beige rather than gray) for BOTH cabinets AND back splash. A soft white is stunning against the HEAVY MOVEMENT of Fantasy Brown. I don't think your wife can appreciate the heavy impact that stone will have. You do NOT need any more "colour" in this space. The counters and the floors have PLENTY. Remember the K.I.S.S. rule: Keep It Simple Sally. Less is more in design.

So your close up has helped. I think you were on the right track with SW Agreeable Gray because I think that even though your stone has yellows and oranges, I think the grey stone actually shows a little violet. I think you are risking getting this wrong if you rush yourself too much, as seeing the new color, and even the current finishes will be hard with all those bright colors around. Before you go into the house, paint several extra large poster boards with some of your contenders so they are ready to go for you as soon as you are on sight. Look at: SW Agreeable Gray (lighter than the next 3) BM Fossil BM Balboa Mist BM Collingwood BM Wind's Breath (Lighter than the others) BM CSP-95 Sea Salt (Full Spectrum color that will behave different from the rest) I know you want to get rid of those obnoxious colors, but I think it is fair to ask your painter to prime the front entry, and give you a few days to decide the new color. Maybe even after he primes, you ask him to delay your job a bit, so you can really see the colors as the light shifts and moves. The big risk with low chroma colors in this area of the color wheel is that they shift, and you might not like what you see. It would be a costly mistake to rush. Take a look at the new list and let me know if there is an alternate route you would like to look at. Please slow down this decision. I hope you land on the correct color easily when you are in the house. I would paint a few from the list that you think might work because you will know instantly when the board is next to the stone and stairs, which direction you need to go. I would love to see the house when it is freshly painted. It will be magnificent!

How far does the hardwood extend on the rest of that floor. I would find out if you can find the same hardwood that is in the dining area, extend it into the kitchen and refinish the whole floor in a light color. Although I do like the darker floors. However, I would not rip out a good hardwood floor, just extend it and finish in a color throughout that you like.
