Chandelier wiring too short
Comments (7)You DID get a great deal on that. What you need to do is easy, altho at first you might see it as being overwelming. You can get chain and wire of different colors at any electrical supply store or HD/Lowes. When you go to put the new wire in, you should first try to tie the new wire onto the old wire, and then just pull the old wire out pulling the new wire in at the same time. This might work, you have a better chance if you tie the wires with a small connection and little tape. Once you take it apart and look at it, you'll see what I mean. Comments (3)The old chandelier only had two wires wired into the box and the new chandelier will wire into the same two wires. All the other wires are passing through and should not be messed with. Carefully inspect the two black wires from the new chandelier to see if they are exactly the same. Any difference, (ridges or stripes) means that it will likely be the white wire. Comments (6)I do agree that it looks a bit high, and usually start around the 30" mark when possible. It depends on the chandelier itself, and you never want to hang too low if it's a wide piece for fear of bumping heads! I don't have advice on how to rewire/add length other than consult an electrician, but if you add taller chairs and a tall centerpiece, that could help with the disconnect. Try a cluster of tall/varied height candlesticks or vases in the same color/finish, and maybe add a runner to complete the look. Good luck!...See MoreNeed HELP installing chandelier - WIRES [PHOTOS]
Comments (15)I faced something similar putting in some track lights and finding a way to feed them. Fortunately for me, there was zero weight on the box since the track attached to the ceiling directly to the joists. But what might help here is that there are boxes available (plastic) for Old Work that attach to the drywall for support. If you have enough slack in the NM (Romex) cable, you can wire inside a new box as Ron said. If the wire is too short, there is a device out there that allows you to splice NM cable end to end without a box. possible box splice kit...See Morettjl04
