Color of Quarter Round Shoe Molding for Natural Oak Floors
Comments (3)In the 2 homes that we have owned, we have done it both ways. In our first home we had the oak strip flooring refinished and we painted the quarter round to match with the trim. In short order they were scuffed and chipped badly. In our second home we refinished the old oak strip flooring in the downstairs and they automatically stained the quarter round. I had never seen this before, but 30 years later, the quarter round is as good as the day they stained it. I love it. It does not appear odd at all. In fact it just blends in with the floor. We chose this staining again when we did the upstairs a few years ago. Upstairs we have some oak and some maple and both floors/quarter rounds look amazing, clean and unobtrusive....See MoreWhy would the baseboard be stacked on top of the shoe molding?
Comments (14)I found an exposes side-angle of the stuff by the stairs. Turns out it's not quarter-round but something else. Has a flat top that the baseboord rests into. I've attached a photo marti8a, yes the whole house it like this. All 2K quare feet. Strangely, inside the closets there's just the baseboard, no wood trim below it. As for the "hammer mark," I think it's just a scuff. There is no indent. snookums2, the flooring is original. The house is only 7 years old and was hardwood throughout from day 1. Any other ideas on why this would be done? Ir is it just a stupid contractor/prior homeowner mistake?...See MoreLaminate flooring: Is shoe molding inevitable?
Comments (2)I didn't have any shoe molding in my former house. Most of the first floor was a nice laminate. They removed all the baseboards and the laminate was installed, and then they put the baseboards back on. That hid the small expansion gaps left around the perimeter. There were transition strips between different rooms though, but I don't think that is what you are asking about?...See MoreShoe molding or no shoe molding?
Comments (12)ILoveRed yes its the kitchen with the bad cabinet guy. He was kicked to the curb and new cabinet guy fixed everything. All doors and drawers were taken back to his shop where he worked on them. Cabinet frames were all sanded down and redone. Original non matching putty dug out and replaced with a better match. Island trim redone by the trim guy at my request. It's getting there. Crown installed today and all pulls are on. Still waiting on doors for above hood and 2 sink front panels....See MoreHelen
