Shoe mold (yes or no) along baseboard with tiled floor?
Comments (16)You're great, Bill. My darling contractors are great, too, but in other areas, not this one. They couldn't imagine not doing shoemold to the point that they literally didn't understand my earnest confirmations (I thought) that it wouldn't be used and put it everywhere. And I had to to let them because the hardwood only came up to somewhere near the baseboards. Oh, well. I tell myself it's a true traditional look....See MoreIs this called stair trim moulding, casing or shoe moulding?
Comments (8)This trim is called a 'mitred return' in terms of stair building. These are made by the same person who makes the treads either on site in pieces then installed or milled up as one piece treads. Comments (7)I like the molding in the picture because its modern so it goes well so if you want a more traditional look then yes more detail would help with that otherwise I think the simple square ones are good and actually probably easier to clean. I hate shoe molding and in my own home had them put this little flat rectangular molding like a mini version of the the molding in the picture and it looks good and is thick enough to work as a shoe mold...See MoreShoe Molding - yes or no?

IMO, when it's painted to match the baseboard you hardly notice it's there. I had a client who objected to it being used when we installed new wood in her breakfast. Evidently she never noticed that she already had it in the rest of her house....See Moresuzanne_sl
