Size and hang length for fixture in LR open to DR
Comments (1)Can you put in recessed lights? This would provide enough light and solve your style problem. I'm not a big fan of bowl pendants as they tend to collect dust and dead bugs and at 10' up would be hard to clean. If not recessed then I think a large flushmount is your best option. Just my opinion....See MoreShould I paint my DR the same as LR?
Comments (45)Yes they did Jen. The first year we were here they ate holes in twenty six window screens and some of the door screens. We were sick, but decided since we were having to replace them we'd put in solar screen. It's fiberglass as were the screens they ate, but it's thicker and I guess they can't get their biters around/through them. After five years of it not happening again we thought it was a fluke so when we installed our screened in porch with regular fiberglass screening. Solar screens make the windows look like black holes and we didn't want the whole porch to looks black. You might know that those darn critters ate through that screen so we wound up replacing it with solar screen after all. It doesn't look as bad as we thought since you can see through from one side to the other. You can see how dark our windows look though....See MoreDR drapes & Before/After of LR (lots of pics)
Comments (29)kmcg85, I saw that thread and thought, gee, those look familiar. ;-) Yours look gorgeous, too! Nice to see the drapes paired with another wall color. Love the saloon sign. I was tempted by the matching shades, too, but I've decided that adding a band of the fabric (I'm taking apart a panel to do this) to the top of the silk Dupioni drapes I bought ages ago from PB for the LR will be enough. Well, maybe. I also need to have a half-moon valance made for the window above our entry. I have an extra silk panel I intend to use for that area and I might add a band of the print along the bottom edge. Or maybe 3 vertical bands. Or maybe ... I'm still mulling possibilities but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of adding a bit of this fabric to the entry valance. Are you crafty? What if you added a band of the fabric at the bottom of the shades you already own? They sell 24" pillows in this fabric so you wouldn't need to buy a whole panel for this small job. Or maybe add a band of trim that is the same color as the background of the drapes? Perhaps crazy ideas but what the heck. Sometimes, great ideas sprout from crazy ideas. schoolhouse, the holidays' craziness will make the time fly by. Before you know it, your panels will be here....See MoreRound 3 (or 4): Fabric Choices for LR/DR
Comments (17)Glad to hear you like them--'cause I do! I think the rose and green fabrics photographed a bit darker than IRL because I took the pic at night. The rose fabric was suggested by the CC designer I'm working with--not sure if you can tell but the little "dots" have both the gold and green in it which are the core colors of my palate. I did not notice in the store, though she remarked on it. Here's a close up of the fabric in question: brususes: The floral fabric (and all the fabrics) are from Calico Corners. It's Juliet Cream, SKU # 847JULICRE Thanks for the complement about my decorating abilities. I equate choosing fabric to choosing granite--you just need to keep searching until you find the one you love. I started working with an Interior Designer who put together a "collected look" for me--only it wasn't my look so I started looking at fabrics on my own at CC. Even though I've been muddling through the whole process myself, these are fabrics and colors that I love--and it sure helped to have this forum give plenty of advice and ideas to point me in the right direction. Appreciate also the feedback on our floorplan. The issue of having it feel open is also my concern with #1, though I do like the look of the armchairs to either side of the fireplace. I'm leaning towards #2--though squirrelhaven brought up a good point about how the colors work together. I'm sure once the furniture is there one or the other floorplans will feel right--and then I'll be sure to post here for addtional decorating advice, regarding art, etc. Lastly, my best to all of you for a Happy Thanksgiving....See Morebac717
