I love the fabrics - very romantic. However, now I think you need to change the green paint - it's too blue of a green to go with the floral fabric. I would like a green that is closer to a soft sage.

It's hard for me to read the colors of either the fabrics or the wall, valinsv. But IF the pics are true, I like them against those walls, and think they'd do well, too, against something greener. So I'd say, whichever is your personal taste.

I do like the fabrics and trim, though. Classic, timeless, but with visual interest and warmth. And I think they offer you sigificant flexibility if you'd like to change the wall color someday. Imagine those in a red, ivory, gold, or bronze room? Lovely.

What color is the wallpaint, btw?

Paint is the easiest thing to change. We painted that one wall green (Behr False Cypress) as part of our remodel--just guessing what color would look good--the other walls are more of a cream color. Green is always a tricky color and that wall shows up different every time I photograph it. In some lights, it blends with the green in the fabric better than others. Mostly I'm looking for further validation--or comments that I should change one or another of the fabrics in the group or consider using them in different ways.

For instance, if I do wood arm chairs (still thinking about this one), I have option to do the back and arms a different color--like the green velvet or rose diamond fabric. My hesitation with the wood arm chairs is that the wood won't really match to the piano it will be near--which is more of a reddish high gloss mahogany stain (probably not the real thing). Then there is the antique mahogany pieces I'm putting there as well.

Another thing is that I would like to work more of the green velvet in the plan. The consultant at CC recommends using the floral as a center for the velvet cushion. Perhaps I should just do 3 cushions all the same--green velvet one side and pink diamonds the other and then I can flip as I desire. Anyone ever make their own sofa cushions?

You have a beautiful selection together, Val!! The red pillow does seem too red/bright, but maybe it's just the photo.

I think I'd do arrangement #1 to get the most impact from your fabrics -- the green accent wall will contrast with your chairs and the sofa will play against all of that too. Otherwise, I think you'll be backdropping your beige/light pieces against beige.

I really like your fabrics! I am not sure about the pink though - it looks more red on my monitor too - is it more of a mauve than pink?
I just had a comment about the first layout of your room where you have the couch facing the fireplace. I did that to my room originally and I had to change it bc I felt the couch and table acted as a barricade to the other part of the room. When company came no one entered into "the space" - they would stand behind the sofa and talk. I would have to encourage them to go and sit.
Then one day DH and I decided to switch the room around - similar to your second picture. It made for a better flow and opened up the space. I am not sure how large your area is though. The next time I had company (different people) they immediately went in and sat down with no prompting on my part. Just something for you to consider. I could post a picture of how I had them if you want.

I like when chairs flank the fireplace. It's a nice cozy quiet spot to read.

Hoyamom's brings up an interesting point about the sofa facing the fireplace. Can you move the arm chairs out a little further from the fireplace, move the sofa to be at the left side of the wall and add an accent chair to the right side of the room where you have one of the arm chairs in #2? This will give you additional seating and the flow you may want for company and conversation.

It seems the room is fairly large and you have many options.

I'm not a floral fabric person so I can offer no opinion. I do really like the WT and sofa fabric.

valin, love your fabric choices, they are beautiful. May I ask, where did you get the large print fabric with the flowers, is that from the furniture designer or a fabric outlet? Thanks so much. Would you like to decorate for me? HA!

I had our living room set up for a while with the sofa facing the fireplace also, as in your plan #1. It was fine when you were in the room, sitting, but both DH and I felt like it made the room feel too "blocked off". I didn't like how it obscured the open view of the fireplace (which we use) from the other common areas where you can see it, plus you couldn't see the Oriental rug. We currently have our room sort of like your #2, except your piano is our fireplace. The downside is that when you sit on the sofa, your back is to the windows, but there is one other window in our room, and I do have additional comfy seating that looks out the window.

Glad to hear you like them--'cause I do! I think the rose and green fabrics photographed a bit darker than IRL because I took the pic at night. The rose fabric was suggested by the CC designer I'm working with--not sure if you can tell but the little "dots" have both the gold and green in it which are the core colors of my palate. I did not notice in the store, though she remarked on it.

brususes: The floral fabric (and all the fabrics) are from Calico Corners. It's Juliet Cream, SKU # 847JULICRE Thanks for the complement about my decorating abilities. I equate choosing fabric to choosing granite--you just need to keep searching until you find the one you love. I started working with an Interior Designer who put together a "collected look" for me--only it wasn't my look so I started looking at fabrics on my own at CC. Even though I've been muddling through the whole process myself, these are fabrics and colors that I love--and it sure helped to have this forum give plenty of advice and ideas to point me in the right direction.

Appreciate also the feedback on our floorplan. The issue of having it feel open is also my concern with #1, though I do like the look of the armchairs to either side of the fireplace. I'm leaning towards #2--though squirrelhaven brought up a good point about how the colors work together. I'm sure once the furniture is there one or the other floorplans will feel right--and then I'll be sure to post here for addtional decorating advice, regarding art, etc.

Here are the two arrangements we had in our family room. I personally think we have one too many chairs - it's my DH - everything has to be symmetrical. LOL

The first one is where the couch is facing the fireplace. Nice to sit and look at the fire but like I said before it was hard to get people to "go in" and sit down. The second picture is the new arrangement. The next party people went right in and sat without prompting. Since these pictures were taken I have added a few accessories so it's not quite the same now.

How I remember that beautiful room! Nice to see you around again :) I always wonder what you ended up doing with dd's beautiful painting.

I have made changes to the room - I moved the picture way down - both DD and DH weren't happy but they are 6'3" and 6'1" and they thought it was just fine way up on that wall. LOL But I don't want to hijack but I will say I did use many of your suggestions!
