I think Pledge ruined my furniture! please help!
Comments (22)Hello Duane Collie From The Keeping Room, i Had the walnut veneer Lacquered finish walnut table ruined by Pledge. The description of the table says “Solid Eucalyptus wood and engineered wood with walnut veneer, covered in a water based dark walnut finish.“ West Elm who I purchased the table from advised me to contact the Furniture Medic - this is a franchised furniture repair business. Hmmm. Awaiting their call. Home Depot in California does not carry mineral spirits, but my woodworking neighbor has Klean Strip- Xylol-Xylene and V.M. &P Naphtha. wouldnt these ruin the veneer? His wife thought I need to oil the table to dissolve the pledge- she gave me jojoba oil! i am afraid I will ruin the table even more...what are your thoughts?...See MoreHave we ruined our kitchen cabinets? Comments (3)Hi, You have already realized that the stain was not fully cured, allowing the solvent in the watco to do its thing, and dissolve the stain. What should have been done immediately was to wipe off the oil with lacquer thinner. Wait a half hour and repeat. You could then have applied some more stain and worked it until the color matched the un-oiled ones. Then, wait until the cure time is met. These cabinets would have oiled just like the others a week before. It may now be too late to do anything but resort to a chemical stripper (instead of lacquer thinner) to remove as much of the oil as you can, and re-stain. Best of luck. Comments (11)We had some mildew on some of our framing lumber. Our builder said it would be fine but for piece of mind I did take a bleach/water solution and sprayed the 2xs that had the black mildew on them. We havent had any issue except for one piece of subfloor that had to have a few extra screws in it. But I think they just missed the floor joists on the initial install and we missed it. Just make sure things dry up before they start putting in insulation...See MoreHelp! builder ruined my wood floors! Please give me some guidance!
Comments (16)Thank you for many good points to follow up with. We closed on the house almost 30 days ago. last week we had a meeting with the project manager, builder, and flooring manager. The first step was the commercial floor cleaning, which took off the extra glue but the finish is also gone from it sitting on the floor for over two months. Also I have boards that are lifting and warping from the cleaning and installation. The flooring manager told me they fired the installer due to sloppy installation work. Right now I would say 50 percent of the floor needs to be changed or reglued. The issue is from discussions they don’t think it requires it. A very good point was brought up to speak with the flooring manufacturer which I will do and also a construction lawyer. This is just so upsetting this is supposed to be our dream home and it is turning into a night mare!...See Morettjl04
