please help with washer dryer installation question
Comments (10)Hello: Hopefully someone can help me with this situation. I live in a 1 bed/1 bath condo in Los Angeles without a laundry hook up. I am in the process of remodeling my bathroom. When talking to various contractors, I spoke about wanting to hook up a washer/dryer combo in the bathroom area. They had this suggestion that I put the unit in a front hall closet that backed up to the shower area & then piped it from there. I was not really sold on the idea, but decided to go for it & do it right with getting a new Bosch Axxis washer & dryer set. My contractor does everything by the book & pulled a permit on the job (big mistake in LA for something like this remodel as I have been without a shower to use for almost a month!!). When the plumbing inspector came out, he said he would never approved of a washer & dryer in the unit cause I do not have 2 inch piping to support the washer. Here is my question to you all out there: 1. Is there anyone out there that has put this unit into a apartment/condo that had a 1 1/2 inch pipe to drain the water. 2. If so, have you had any problems. I know that the law requires a 2 inch pipe for a washer, but these are supposed to be for situations like mine since they don't use as much water. Bosch is NO help with all of this after calling a few times. They said they will never give out a minimum requirement due to being liable if something happens. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get around this, I would really appreciate it. I don't want to cancel the order. Everyone told me to just get the shower passed in the inspection, they repipe in the washer & dryer after the inspector leaves. Thanks in advance, Karen...See MoreCabinetry for washer dryer? Comments (3)The laundry is going to be in our newly-renovated master closet/dressing room (no other place...they are now in garage!). Original plan was to have them in a closet, but then the doors to the closet would always be hanging open, impeding access to the rest of the room, etc., so we are planning to have them set off in an "alcove", but no doors. So, since this is mostly "my" space, I don't want the washing machines just hanging out there, looking utilitarian, and with all the associated junk that would be left on top of the machines, etc.. We've gone from putting a countertop over them and upper cabinets, to the idea of having them in cabinetry (but no door on the front of the cabinetry, so the machines will still be accessible (at the front, at least), for a "semi-built-in" look. Contractor plans to put emergency shut-offs, etc. in the upper cabinet (above the hole where the washer/dryers will sit) so we'd still have access to that in case of emergency (and will have pan) with drain for possible leaks....See MoreMinimum depth for Miele washer & Dryer under counter with cabinet door
Comments (12)garyboun - I actually accomplished what I wanted and I love it. My washer /dryer are underneath my cabinets with pocket doors that open and slide back in. It required wider cabinets but I love that they are hidden when not in use. Since I used pocket doors, I had to go wider so each appliance has double pocket doors. Because the dryer is not vented it's important to keep doors open when using. It's great during the winter because it heats the room up. Let me clean up the laundry room a bit and I'll show you pics. In order to accomplish the planning of my cabinets, I did find a washer/dryer in a showroom and took pictures so that I could plan where to put my plugs and drain hoses. I have those pics as well if you want them. The only thing that is a bit tricky is that the detergent fill-bin is located at the top, so you will need to be careful about your countertop overhang. My total depth of the cabinets with the w/d is 27" including countertop. Cabinet depth is 26 1/2" so very minimal overhang. There's definitely room in the back for it to go back further but I wanted to play it safe. At minimum I think the cabinet depth would need to be 25" with doors that overlay on top versus inset. As far as leaving door open to dry out, it's also necessary to wipe down the rubber flange of excess water so mold doesn't set in. But I typically leave door open when I'm done with laundry on both w/d for a bit before closing them up for the day. These are in my back door entry so it's really nice to shut them away. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Let me know if you have any questions and I will see if I can upload pictures tomorrow....See MoreHelp with new washer extremely loud when draining
Comments (44)Several weeks after my last hopeful post, HD finally picked up the washer and dryer. It was not without major intervention and speaking with several different people, having to repeat over and over the story. They would promise to call me back but they never would. Weeks would go by and I would have to call them back. It was very stressful because they would never say either way what they were going to do. So it was like being strung along, whereas if they would have just said no, I would have moved on or seen if they would at least fix it. I know if I had been forcefully insistent I could have gotten this done faster but I always try to be respectful to other human beings so I won't hate myself in the end for having been awful!!! It was December when all of this finally took place. There was lots more but in the interest of getting to the point.... I went somewhere else to buy a new W/D because I was too exasperated to go through HD again. I'm sure that this is not typical for HD and that they have many happy customers, as I have been in the past, but I think for right now, it was best to walk away.. for both parties. Although by this time, I think we both must feel like we are part of each other's family! Ironically, I ended up with an LG only because the pump is quiet and the dryer runs quietly. The dryer is very good. I researched endlessly and came to the conclusion that there are very few companies to choose from once you impose your deal breaker limitations. There are things I don't like about this machine, it has a square door which doesn't open flat against itself and it's plastic glass, not real glass and feels cheap. The panel is not backlit so you can't see the settings easily and it doesn't put as much water on the clothes as the Whirlpool did. It's hard to remove the detergent drawer and seems like I always stab my finger trying to release it to remove it to clean and dry off. It's not nearly the glamorous product that the loud drain pump Whirlpool was but it does have a quiet drain pump which is a good thing since it seems to run an awfully lot. I bought it only for the reasons that it is quiet, it has an interior drum light, had positive reviews. After making one humongous laundry trip to a laundromat I was sufficiently humbled to make a decision! I got something that had most every option I was looking for, had good reviews and was in-stock. The in-stock color was the graphite stainless color which I'm not sold on, preferring white, but it's here and this is it! Thanks for listening as I journeyed through this debacle. I may grow to like this machine more and more as time goes by but I am disappointed that my beloved Whirlpool did not work out. It was awesome other than the damage it had and the loud drain pump. Thanks again!...See More- 4 years ago
