Counter depth fridge size and cutout help!
Comments (17)Sorry, typo! I meant the 2060, a freestanding right-door opening fridge, which is what I actually linked. I will link it again here. @tinyone. Can you provide measurements around the cut out and the distance in inches from the interior of the cutout to the wall? Without that information it's hard to truly help. @sjhockey - I agree that a right opening door is not ideal. But it offers the best chance of opening enough so the fridge actually can be used. Unless there is enough clearance it can't open left because even a 0-clearance hinge fridge has a handle which will hit the wall and may not fully open. But we can only make "if this" suggestions without the facts/ measurements. Given the facts the OP has posted so far, I don't believe the agent is right. I think I am right. But that could change depending on how far it is from the fridge cutout to the wall on the left and how much space there is between the ovens and the cut out on the right. And if there's enough space for the door to swing open in the aisle between the fridge wall and the island. @tiny -- if you are doing other work in the house, a competent GC could make this all go away very easily. Depending -- again -- on the current location of the electrical outlet in the fridge cut out and the location of the water line it might need an electrician and a plumber in addition to a carpenter who is good enough to do fine finish work and alter an existing cabinet well enough to reuse pieces as needed. If a GC has a good crew, that's the way to go. The percentage paid to him will be worth it as he will be responsible. But I wouldn't let anyone touch anything until you ID a fridge that can function in the space somehow and after you've identified what will need to be altered more or less. Then I'd meet with the GC with the spec sheets in front of you to discuss his suggestions on how to go forward and what it will cost. Only after that would I make a purchase. OTOH, if the cabinet store that furnished the cabinets is known, might be worth a call to them. But then no one person is responsible. I also would be careful about where I purchase the fridge. It weighs 400 pounds. It needs to go from the truck to the door of the house closest to the kitchen. When my fridge was delivered it was to the bottom of my driveway -- the contractor had to bring it up. Don't assume anything. Ask a ton of questions. I'd want people there with the right equipment and in the right numbers to bring it into without ruining the floors, nicking the door, denting it or at worst -- dropping it. I'd find out in advance if the fridge can be tilted horizontally (some cannot). Unfortunately, this is not a Mom's fridge from Sears situation. Comments (46)Asko owner for 21 years. designed into a kitchen, as in Europe. They are quieter due to being used in kitchen, I find I can do a king size set of sheets, with 6 pillow cases quite fine. I dry my sheets separately since doing together has me doing another period. The high rpm of spins I like, has clothes dryer before drying. And some nice shorter cycles, a good cold water one, again so quiet you can eat in the same room and hear one another. I use a lot less soap powder , 1 Tablespoon per load, always the HE of any brand. I add 1 Tablespoon of Oxi-Clean also. some softener also. Very clean clothes. The looks, Great. mine are white, have it next to a Kitchen -Aid, white and wood cabinets. Now the down side. Replaced the set about 7 years ago, I think we just wore them out ! how 2 people need to wash so much. We have had several niggling things with the newer set, dryer is not out in the middle of the floor, belt wore out. Waiting for part. Ours are trouble because we designed them under a counter that supports a china cabinet, always needing to be unloaded because once the units are out there is no support for the above cabinet when fully loaded. In the process of redoing the bathroom to hold the Asko's, easier access if needed to work on. Note: I had a Maytag set (regular size) for 24 years with very little trouble. So, if they are not built in to make them difficult to extract and work on, they are really good looking....See MoreCounter Depth Refrigerator
Comments (18)I have two old R12 fridges in an unheated garage and there is a noticeable difference in their operation, summer and winter. But it’s nothing I’m concerned about because they are full of beer; but the temperature fluctuations I can tolerate for a bottle of beer may not be suitable for food. So, you pays your money and you takes your choice. There’s nothing to stop you putting your fridge in an igloo, if you want to, but it may not work as well as it would in a nice heated kitchen where it was intended to go.. But here are two plausible reasons why a minimum temperature limit is suggested by manufacturers and may affect the operation. The first will be familiar to split air conditioning engineers as over condensing. If the condenser is too cold there is a possibility of the refrigerant gaining too much sub-cooling, reduced condenser pressure and reduced flow through the capillary tubes feeding the evaporator. In other words, there will be a reduction in the machine’s capability to do its work. This may result in damage, long term. Hydrocarbons (R-600 and the like) obey the same laws of thermodynamics as everything else. Their transport properties are selected to be close to the conventional CFC and HFC refrigerants https://bestoutdooritems.com/best-outdoor-refrigerator/ The second reason will be familiar to people from the old school of refrigeration who worked on butcher’s cold rooms that were often outside the backs of shops in all weathers. It can affect some types of thermostats (not all, just some) where the temperature inside the fridge is warmer than the temperature outside in the winter. If parts of the stat, say its bellows, are mounted on the outside facia, the gas charge inside the stat can condense in the bellows section at low temperatures and cause it to give very erratic control. This is quite rare, but it can happen, even with a domestic fridge....See MoreWasher and dryer that fit under a standard 36" counter
Comments (20)The issue with the Asko washer is the controller board. My machine never worked on certain cycles. They replaced it and the replacement machine didn't work on the same cycles. After 8 years of use in a weekend house the controller board broke and could not be replaced. Apart from that I liked the washer. I didn't care for the Asko dryer at all. It was vented. Everything came out constantly wrinkled. The Bosch non-vented dryer had a larger capacity and put the Asko to shame performance wise. One poster here, suburbanmd, bought one of the deluxe Asko sets and returned it due to function issues. Here is a link to the thread which details the problems. You can take/leave free advice, of course. I'm not going to use your machine so for me, it makes no difference which one you decide to buy. Folks make their decisions based on many factors. However, I do have experience as an owner of 3 of the 4 compact major sets. I wouldn't go go Asko again and don't recommend it. Miele is a far better washer & dryer. The Bosch washer doesn't have the true hot washes but the capacity is good and the condenser dryer is excellent. I have no experience with Electrolux compact machines so I cannot comment on those. However, that machine has a heater. And there are posters here who own the machines and like them. IOW other better choices....See Moregaryboun
