We’ve had ours over a year now and no issues.

Restoration Hardware has some great upholstered beds. The Perennials fabric collection holds up beautifully and is washable or spot cleanable. I'd choose a lighter color if keeping the dark walls. But I'm not a pro. I just saw your room, and envisioned a scrolly metal bed in it... The sconces, with their swirly candle holders, inspired me.

Now, I don't know which color I'd do a metal bed... White would harmonize with your bedding, which I think I really like. Black *might* be too much of a contrast, but if your sconces are black metal, then it might work. Your wall looks green on my screen, so a deep bronze would be pretty, too.

But I like scrolly, swirly, organic things, lol.

Your windows are really your headboard so I would keep everything below it simple. Bed could be wood if it's plain and rectangular. Uph. Headboard could be in linen or leather etc.

All of the fancy headboards distract from the windows. You want an absolutely plain headboard- any of the upholstered headboards with the straight top rail will work.

whatever you do, don't buy a bed you can't see IRL in a showroom first. test out the strength -- push on the corners with your feet, see if you can make the frame wobble. make sure the slats underneath are strong and that there's at least one sturdy post under the midbeam. king beds are huge and need lots of support! I've seen many kings that didn't have the proper structure underneath, and they're wobbly or make the mattress sag. very annoying, esp if one of you is a light sleeper.

I'm in the painful process of returning an online bed frame that had thousands of stellar reviews claiming the bed was sturdy. it was not.

The only thing that I would worry about is how the upholstered bed would hold up to children, a dog and spots from your head against it. I would go with simple wood

Did you see the brass nailhead detail on the American Signature beds? Nice touch for your room.

Maybe it’s just me, but I wouldn’t want the top of the bed to nearly be touching the bottom of the windows. Your queen bed shape looked much better than a big square that looks like three windows are sitting on/peeking over the top of it. I’d get a shorter headboard for sure. Those windows are so pretty, I wouldn’t want to detract from them with a big padded board.

I like Beverlys suggestions. You can still do more dressy nightstands and accessories if your bed is basic.

Also I have always got a king sized comforter for our queen bed, but after looking at pics and other photos of other queen beds dressed up, does this comforter look to big for the bed?

I think it looks fine with your current bed because your bed it tall so there is lots of space for the linens hanging over. If you had a different bed might not be as good of a fit.

even when I used to have a queen bed, I prefer a king size comforter so my partner and I have more blanket to share. cuts down on stealing. if the look bothers you, you can always tuck the blanket in around the sides.

I don't think the bed has to be "way lower" than your window, just not so close that the headboard touches the window. I do like the very plain upholstered ones Bev posted for your room.

I, too, think the tall upholstered beds crowd your gorgeous windows. And with little kids and dogs in bed, upholstered doesn't really seem ideal. If you like the look of a metal bed, what about a light colored one? It would be really pretty with your dark walls as a backdrop.

I was thinking of something like the last metal bed that Miss Olychick just posted! I think it'd look great with your bedding. :-)

Any feedback about cons of having a King bed? Is there a small version of a King? Just worried about it being bulky after some comments. Initial thoughts were to have a king for a little more room, but also fitting under the window better. Maybe that's not the best idea though? Thoughts....

I LOVE my king bed and can't sleep in anything else. The size is 76 x 80. You can get a California King which is less wide, but longer head to foot. 72 x 84. I think it's easier getting bedding for a standard king. If you have the room, I'd go for it. When you first move from a queen, it will seem large. However, you'll never go back.

I agree...if you have room for a king, it's a wonderful sleeping experience!

Fewer bedding options. I'm extraordinarily picky, apparently, when it comes to linens/decor/houses/clothes/whatever, and I find that there are fewer selections of king-sized bedding (as opposed to queen).

I actually have a queen-sized bed, but I buy oversized duvets and quilts for it. My husband has been reluctant to upgrade to a king, knowing that I already buy King stuff... If we trade our queen for a king, *poof* there goes my entire "look."

Please also consider that your current bed has a footboard high enough to help keep the covers from sliding down while sleeping. I always buy beds with a footboard high enough to restrain the duvet/ covers from sliding away.

Any supposed advantage rendered by a footboard in helping to prevent a cover from sliding down is more than overcome by the footboard's interference in making the bed.

Those windows are beautiful! Not everyone is unable to sleep with light coming through their windows and, if they do, I guess that's what window coverings are for. I've never had window coverings on any bedroom in over 50 years and have no problem sleeping. It's not that difficult to get used to.

Prefer waking up to natural light, windows were discussed/talked about for years before we designed them that way. Wanted a change compared to the same ol' same ol' windows on either side of the bed. Everyone is obviously different and unique in their own way. Appreciate the feedback still :)

As for me and my family, we even sleep with the covers over our heads to block any light or sound.
