LOL. I know what you mean. I had one at my last house because the bedroom was soooo big, and it just made the room look wide as a double-wide trailer. I have seen them in model homes that looked good but I don't know how to get that look but I am sure you will. You have such good taste and I bet you come up with a great idea that will floor me for not thinking of it.

We have a regular headboard on our king, but then I bought a theater rod, and hung two drapery panels that match our comforter print behind the bed. They are hung just below the ceiling (8ft) and are pulled back at the point where the bedposts sit, and in the center I have hung a piece of framed art. I don't think the bed feels massive or takes over the room at all, and our room isn't large - 13x17.

You could try putting the bed itself on risers (they sell them at Linen's & Things, Bed, Bath & Beyond) to give the bed height. This may divert your attention from the width. Get a nice, tall headboard and drape some fabric above the bed (rod, hoop, hook or ring). Add a painting or piece of art work and you're done. Going from queen to king is an adjustment, but you'll get use to it and learn to love it.

Maybe height is what I need. They gave us these short box springs but that is bc the bed itself if thicker than thick! Still that might help with the look from wide to more normal. Plus my bedskirt is not working right.

I once upholstered the wall behind the bed all the way up to the ceiling. I put up 2" foam, covered it with fabric, then trimmed it with wood molding to cover the edges and give a finished look.

Look at the link provided. PB has ceiling mount rods that can be used to create a canopy effect. This could be very pretty using drapes that coordinate with your bed linens for a semi custom look!

I've linked below my favourite bedroom set from a pine & oak shop near us - we purchased new livingroom furniture from them this past spring and plan on buying the bedroom set from them in a year or two (need to save some money first!). I just love this set because of the high headboard and low footboard - it's a queen shown in the pic but easily imagined with a king which is what we have and our bed is screaming for some height as it too looks really wide in our room.
