Boring Mantle - Decorating Help Needed
Comments (33)Thanks for the additional suggestions -- - So for those who say that the white mat is too stark (and I can see your point) What would you suggest instead? - Oopsie - Are you suggesting I rest the painting on the mantle? - Barb - I tried the light pot up there, but thought it just looked like pot-pot-pot... The clock was a different type and material, so it broke the pot-pot-pot thing -- though I agree it's not perfect. A 'horsehair pot' gets it's decoration from horesehair dribbled onto the hot pot straight out of the kiln. That's what gives it the smoky brown haze effect and ridged lines -- actual burned hores hair. - CrazyOne - The fireplace stone is cultured stone in the Chardonnay color, Southern Ledgestone pattern. The seat and mantle are natural limestone slabs. And while it's supposedly legal for wood-burning, we prefer the instant gratification of gas, so that's what we use. No glass or curtain -- but if I find exactly the right screen someday... Here is a link that might be useful: Horse Hair Pottery...See MoreNeed help with mantle decor and paint color please. Comments (6)I think I would remove everything from the mantle/cabinet and paint it one shade deeper than the wall it is on. Then fill the niches with large pottery, baskets, or metal bins. Leave the mantle empty and possibly two wrought iron wall sconces for a large fat candle on either side of fireplace. This picture shows some elements that might translate to your fireplace area. Color of fireplace is similar to wall. Basket adds texture that would look good in the niches The pottery vases and tall big plantings help balance the weight of the whole fireplace wall. I think it would also be nice if you had doors made for the side niches and use the center niche for a large filling plant in pottery, metal, or basketry....See Moreneed help decorating my mantle

Comments (18)I think my mantel reflects my cluttered life. I still have my Christmas nutcrackers and angels up. Hey officially tomorrow is Epiphany the 12th day of Christmes. I have an array of sentimental gift porcelains that I rotate with candles to fit the seasons. I have a pair of hurricane lamps that in recent years have held those battery operated mini lights and Christmas balls. In summer I put my seashell collection in them with candles. I may replace those in the fall with the acorns I need to sweep off the patio now. Your mirror fills the space so just a couple tall candle holders or hurricane lamps is all you need. Then you can add some seasonal color if you like or keep it simple....See MoreStephanie L
