is mayo preference regional?
Comments (37)Like Nancylouise, I make my own mayo, and it's extremely simple. The only thing I do not like is cleaning the blender. I use only olive oil in my mayo, which gives it a different flavor from commercial mayo, but I've come to prefer it. My brother in Texas significantly lowered his cholesterol simply by switching to olive oil mayo, but then he must have been eating a lot of it, and I don't. When I bought mayo, I only bought Best Foods, which was Hellman's in Texas. I also can't stand MW, but then it's not mayo. It is way too sweet for me and has an off flavor as well. I learned from the beauty forum here that you can make a facial using MW and Philips MOM, but I don't have the recipe for that. One of the instructions was to "step away from the fumes" and so I never tried it. Lars...See MoreOooooh, this one's a keeper! Tuna sate with wasabi mayo.
Comments (3)AM, I made your Tuna Sates for a luncheon I was having at my house. Fourteen of us. Unanimous, they all raved how good it was and there wasn't a piece left! I followed your changes rather the recipe from Gourmet! I did mine on the grill. It stuck to the grill a bit and the skewers went on fire, and it didn't look too pretty by the time I had them on the platter but it sure did have a fantastic taste! Thanks for the recipe! It's definitely a keeper! Carol...See MoreDo You Have A Recipe for Egg Salad?
Comments (27)There is something about sweet pickle relish that turns me off. Don't even put it on hot dogs and I for sure wouldn't add it to egg salad but that's just me :-)) Except for gherkins, I don't even like pickles much and don't think about putting one on my hamburger!! I just don't care for savory and sweet mixed together....See MoreMayo in chocolate cake, anyone done it?
Comments (30)If you know the ingredients of mayonnaise it really shouldn't make you queasy to put it in cake. Mayonnaise is a flavor carrier, it can go sweet or savory. That's why I like it better than Miracle Whip, which has already committed to sweet . . . if I want a sweet condiment I'll add sugar to mayo . . . My big concern with a mayo chocolate cake would be keeping qualities. Moist desserts tend to mold on us before we can eat them all. Fruity cakes and pies often go moldy or languish way too long in the fridge to be at their best at our house. But freezing cupcakes would be a good way to go with this cake, preserving it longer because we don't eat sweets at a fast pace with just the two of us here who watch our diets pretty closely. My friend only made the cake because she was having a party, she also watches her diet, but entertains more than I do because she has a huge family and local circle of friends. They had a small outdoor socially distanced campfire gathering taking advantage of the short Indian summer weather we had last week....See More- 6 years agolast modified: 6 years ago
