Design Dilemma Home Decorating

need wall decor ideas for foyer staircase wall

Hi. In our foyer, that has very high, 2-story ceilings and a staircase, i have on one wall a large persian rug tapestry. Opposite the tapestry is the staircase which is blank except for two sconces. We are renovating so my budget is tight for pricey art. The whole area is echo-y. I’m not partial to filling the wall with family photos, want to keep it fairly simple. The foyer itself has a large persian rug, chair, side table and lamp. I need suggestions on decor for that wall. Suggestions welcome!!! Thank you!

I would put the tapestry between the sconces and leave the wall where the tapestry is now empty. It is really above decorating height

HI -- I do not like houses that have these large open useless spaces . This is always a problem for noise and how to paint them and how to decorate . You would have to hire painters and the use of scaffolding and the high cost to do so and to maintain. That wasted square footage could be better used in the upstairs living areas . You could have some applied moldings in a square pattern or wallpaper for interest , or quilted fabric panels but some does not help with the sound . Tapestries or rugs or soft wall hangings helps a bit... as for a large painting that can be home made or the affect done with a wallpaper mural or a hired Artist . Maybe in the future consider having some of the area built in for useable square footage . That will add better value to the house .

@Filipe Agostinho I love both murals and big art. I have both in my home. The downside is they can be pretty pricey. That one is 24"x24", which isn't even that big, for $5200. Wow. I am a little surprised at that price. But that is a really cool painting. I love it. When I photoshopped that painting I didn't bother to look at the size. The photoshop was simply meant to give an idea of the possibilities.

Is this an Air BnB? If so, don't worry about adding more decor. It is fine just like this. If it is actually your home, then yes I see why you'd want it more personalized. Either way, I'd get a head board and situate it far enough from the wall that you can open and close the slats. Leaning against the shutter slats seems like a good way to break them. Why do you want the beds on that wall? It makes the windows in operable. Is there a terrible view outside? Is there no other configuration that works? Is it at all dangerous to have no egress from this bedroom, no ability to open the windows? I find your bedding calm and lovely. Great tailored skirts.

I would get a large piece of mdf and cover it with whatever piece of wallpaper or fabric you can find that moves you. Then hang it.
