UPDATE:Can't move forward, is it time to hire interior decorator?
Comments (19)If I recall from your earlier posting, I believe you were concerned that your countertops had a pinkish cast to it? My concern with any green would be that it would emphasize that even further. Can anyone suggest a color to iwantakitchen to deemphasize the pinkish undertones in the counters? Once that is balanced that should help you get a direction to focus. If you want to keep it light and bright what about something like karenforroses' backsplash? Except for your birch lowers, your choices in terms of white cabs and light neutral counters are quite similar. I've long admired her kitchen for the clean and simple palate she used, but no one could ever say it is boring. What I would suggest is to find an inspiration kitchen (via the FKB, mags, etc.) that is similar to what you have so far and use that to help narrow your choices. You may also want to swap out your bulbs in the UC lights to a warm white as they also can have a great influence how your counters, backsplash look. In my kitchen at the moment I have replaced a few bulbs with a warmer white bulb and it's amazing that it gives the backsplash a whole different cast so whatever you choose be sure to check it in your lighting since with the limited windows and northern exposure you will be relying more on artificial lighting. Here is a link that might be useful: karenforroses' kitchen...See MoreDone but not decorated - moved furniture into place
Comments (30)Thanks, trailrunner! Les, that's an interesting thought but I don't think it would look very good for a couple of reasons. This table has leaves that slide out from under the exisitng table top and there's a wavy gap on each side where the leaves join. Plus the leaves are a much darker color (I'm guessing because they didn't see the light as often) so I'd only use it with a tablecloth. I have no idea what I am going to do with the chairs yet. I don't have any chairs for the big table in the library at the moment (can't afford the Carrington Court ones right now) so either two of these chairs or the two non-matching end chairs with arms, will go in the library. But I'm not married to the idea of having chairs all around. As for the chandelier, we just had a ton of sheetrock work done plus all the downstairs ceilings refloated and the entire house painted so it is not in the near future but a possibility down the road. I have my chandelier that I love but had to take down because it was too low. My thought was, besides the expense of the electrician and sheet rock and painter, I wanted to live with the room swap for a while and make sure we really liked it and make sure we had the table in the right place before we went to all that effort but I'm sure it will happen eventually. Of course considering the way hubby has walked by the room 10 times today and each time said something about how nice it is, I think I know his thoughts on it. :) But we always knew that room would work for a dining room. It's getting the sitting room figured out that has me the most bothered. Did you see the picture I posted of the dark tables I could use there? And it didn't help that the rug for there arrived today and is going back on Monday. It was so wrong. I ordered another one, more of a tone than a pattern, that I hope will be better. (Wish I had gotten the Chloe recliners in a solid color...ah, hindsight, my good friend.)...See MoreAnother Option For Art Along Staircase Wall
Comments (18)lisaam Chijim, it's very interesting how well the floor works with the sihlouettes; I wonder which came first. From what I've read, Patricia has collected them for awhile. Mario also has done the decor in her previous NYC and Long Island homes, so when she relocated to Charleston they decided to use them going up the staircase... and the complimenting painted flr followed...See Moreawkward features - need help finding right decor
Comments (16)oh, ok, that's better. yeah, I'd incorporate the entire space and build up underneath the stairs. do a nook or desk area for the kids. why don't you look at 'built ins under staircase' ideas and look at all the pics? you could easily enclose that one side that steps down. bring up a wall and have all sorts of things. imagine this one wall going up to the stairs and now you have this enclose little bench/reading spot I'd probably remove the step up altogether and take it down level w/the floor. you'd still keep your step at the beginning of the stairs, but this one portion, make it like shown above this make sense? extra storage if you level that 'stage', then you could do something like this w/pull out drawers and a little play area so many cool ideas. but definitely remove the step-up...See MoreIdaClaire
