Need some help with Living Room & Kitchen area in new apartment

Hi All! First time poster here. I just took a new job in a new city, which means I also have a new apartment. I’m having some trouble deciding what colors I should use in my living room, and would love some additional input. Walls are cream colored and floors are dark-ish. I’m thinking gray couch? I’m looking to purchase a new couch, end tables, coffee table, TV stand, and also a kitchen table and chairs. Thanks for all of your help, and Happy Holidays!

pic 1,,,,what's off to the right? another wall?

here are many diff layouts and furniture options that could work for your space. (you could put the tv on the wall that's shown (pic1) or against the wall if there is also one out of sight.

Hi Beth! Thank you! Yes, pic 2 is the dining table area, with the kitchen to the right of it. Pic 1 to the right is the large window(s) and front door. :)

How do you feel about a shag rug and glass waterfall coffee table or a larger 2-tiered glass table? This black & white rug is a little overdone in design pics, but it does seem to work on top of carpeting and with your modern decor. With your beige carpet and yellow walls, I'd be afraid to add too many other colors in a rug. I think giving the room a vertical element using curtains with a contrasting border would offset all of the elongated pieces (sofa, settee, coffee table and window).

You have a very inviting home. I would advise a rug with more color than what I see so far in your decor to avoid an all-greige look. After years of gray the modern trend now is toward more color, but a lot depends on your personal style I'm rather curious what the rolled-up carpet looks like. Try looking at traditional and transitional rugs on esale.com, a company that will allow you to return rugs without cost. e-bay also has a good selection of rugs. Since your furniture has solid colors I would investigate rugs with a pattern and different colors to bring some complexity and interest to your scheme. You can then repeat some of the colors in pillows. The pillows you show are rather drab and colors such as blue, terra cotta and leaf green would look lovely.

That's absolutely charming..I love the simplicity of the boxwood wreath above your fireplace You definitely need 2 wingback chairs in there, tho..maybe a couple of lanterns on the hearth. But less is definitely more, here. The print on the armchairs will be plenty.

This is totally a room where 3-4 small scale, but very comfortable arm chairs, with a couple on swivels for TV watching, would work great. Add a round coffee table (a hassock as shown below for putting feet up) in the middle with an interesting light--arc lamp or pendant--centered on coffee table. These chairs are too high , but you can see how well floating several comfortable armchairs work. Measure carefully before you choose furniture so that you have clear walkway. Three chairs might work best. If you get a couple upholstered dining chairs for a round dining table in the corner, you can pull them into the living room space as needed. Definitely consider some great pendant lighting and a rug to anchor living area to define the spaces.

I'd do a bench, built in bench, or a settee for the dining area. get a nice light, some artwork, and you could easily have quite a few people over, have storage, and look cool!

I just recently got the black leather Sven sofa and that exact chair for my room. I love them! I also got the Sven leather bench/coffee table. prices are very reasonable. Then find the accessories. bring in some art or a rug w/color.

I really loved the sven in the blue. this would look great w/your floor and cream wall color. (it is cream, right, and not the yellow in the picture?)

The pouf was from Amazon,,,the Tables and MCM credenza I've had and refinished myself. Rug I had, but I want to get something lighter.
