About the ever popular New Balance 608s, men or husband's here wear it

You know that old reliable white or black athletic shoe sold by New Balance that every other man over the age of 50 owns? It is the style number 608v5 now, replacing the 608v4. My husband has been using this style of shoe for work now for probably 5 years. He needs the solid leather style and it has been a good comfortable shoe for standing all day, he works in a warehouse with cement floors. They recently changed it up and now the sole is falling apart after about a month of wear. The shoe has a strong navy or black(depending on the color shoe) sheet of rubber, attached to the main sole, that hits the floor. This slice of rubber is coming away from the shoe at the toe area. Here is a Zappos link to the shoe: Men's New Balance 608v5

If you scroll to the bottom of that page, you can see another customer with the same issue. When we contacted New Balance with this issue (the same thing has happens to TWO pair now after one month and second pair was after 3 weeks) they claim that they are unaware of this defect. This new design has change up that bottom sole portion and made it be in pieces instead of a more solid piece. Before, he would get about a year out of a pair. New Balance even went so far as to tell us we must be doing something wrong to the shoe...UGH! If you look at the photo at Zappos of the bottom of the shoe, you can see how it is now in three sections. It is the toe section that is coming apart from the shoe. I mean, if you think about it, it is a dumb design of that shoe and I can see why it comes off. The old 608 was a much better design of the sole.

I was wondering if others have had a similar experience with this shoe? Also, have you or your husband found a similar shoe to this that is a good comfortable shoe, maybe he could try something else as a replacement since this style shoe is falling apart now. A replacement would need to be white, leather and have a comfortable sole for wearing all day. He does use an insole insert for extra comfort.
