When we were in Monterey County, we stll had turkey on T'giving, but Friday night was all about crab and artichokes, our debris dinner. We'd drive out to Moss Landing for the crab, still hot from the pot, and pick up artichokes in Castroville on the way home. Paired with garlic toast, or course!

Our season on the north coast is delayed too, but whales weren't mentioned, it is the 'return' on the test crab not being adequate yet to warrant a commercial opening. They don't weigh in with enough meat in relationship to shells and size and need to bulk up a little still. One or 2 percentage points lower than a number that will let the fishermen begin.

There is a sports crab fishery inside the bay open, a friend of mine went out and dropped off a crab. (dungeness). It was good, not great - cooked and eaten same day caught. A legal size but barely and there was enough meat for two adult dinner salads but no more than that. This was about a week ago, and I'd like to see them more full than what this one was.

Yeah, they mentioned size also. But it was just on the cusp. Might have to drive out to the coast to see if we can see any of those whales swimming by!

I heard that crab was going to be $21 per pound! Hense the lasagne!

My grandson, midwest in origin but lately living in San Francisco went crabbing last weekend and pulled in...don't remember but something like 37 pounds of Dungeness crabs....gave a lot away and had a tremendous feast His boss has a friend who knows someone who has some pots and the boss has a boat....anyhow he thought it was all that!

Perhaps not the same, but can you get frozen lobster, fresh scollops are in season....just change it up a bit?

Islay, there is nothing like Dungeness crab. Yeah you can get all sorts of wonderful and fresh seafood on the West Coast (and frozen lobster is way down the list) but there is nothing like Dungeness.

I'm with sushipup. Also scallops run from $19-21 per lb!

Scallops are about 2e, so $2 a pound here. I'm stocking the freezer!
