Following. I'm installing IKEA cabs in Jan/Feb and wanted a range hood like that too!

There are many answers to this question online (example for a 24" wide hood) but they all basically say the same thing: You'll attach a 30"-wide piece of lumber to the back wall at the level of the base of the hood. You'll attach a piece of 3" x 30"* sheet metal to the underside of the support lumber. You'll install the 12"-deep hood. Result: the 3" wide sheet metal covers the gap between the base of the hood and the wall.

*assumes cabinet and range are 30" wide

@wdccruise, thanks! I wasn't sure if having support lumber was the best answer or not but it certainly seems fairly easy to accomplish.

Inexplicably, it appears that the only 15" deep Victory Range Hood is the 36"-wide Victory Phoenix. The 30" models all appear to be 12" deep.

Does anyone know if the Victory Range Hood is available for purchase here in the states?

I need a 36” wide hood because of my stove size but Victory Range is in Canada :/

I guess I’ll just have to use the standard size one and jerryrig behind it as suggested above.

shead, I am in the US and ordered the hood and had it shipped. I was nervous buying sight unseen and internationally, but I think they do a fair amount of business in the US. I had some questions and emailed them and got a prompt and helpful response. The shipping was a bit pricey, but overall (maybe in part because of the exchange rate??) the cost was comparable to other hoods I was considering. The biggest issue for me was finding a hood that could be limited to under 400 cfm, but seemed like it would still be relatively quiet, work well, and look the way I wanted it to at a price I was OK with. I also liked hoods from Zephyr. I think I learned about Victory hoods here on Houzz, so you might find other opinions on them.

Looks great! I'm hoping to use one that is little taller than that one (around 18" tall) which means I'd only have about 5" on top (just enough to put a 5" x 36" drawer front across the top.

I'd love to see the rest of your IKEA kitchen! I really like how you used panels along the bottom and top instead of the cornice trim pieces.

Remember that the shortest IKEA wall cabinet -- above the hood -- is 15" tall and there will be a requirement for a minimum distance between the cooktop and the base of the hood specified in the hood's installation instructions. For example, for that Victory hood, "We often recommend a distance between the countertop or burners and the hood to be min 24" for electrical and 30" for gas burners." This will limit the height of the hood.

Thank you, shead! I will be posting more photos of the kitchen now that it seems I can successfully load photos again. We still have a few things to do before I do that, though. I, too, wanted a taller hood, and wanted to do exactly what you are planning! I just could not find one I could justify paying for since we only wanted 400 cfm or less. If I could have installed a more powerful hood, I might very well have gotten a different one. I will be looking forward to seeing what you choose and how it looks!

We used cut down cover panels for the bottom light rail, but the top is the Forbattra deco strip, turned so the shallow profile is showing. I decided I liked the little bit of curve on the top molding, but I think cover panels all around would look good, too.

FWIW, our hood is set a little higher than the specs recommended; it is about 33 or 34" above the gas cooktop. The hood seems to work well enough for us at this height.

Yes, but this can be hacked so that a 15" tall cabinet is only 5" tall ;) However, it will all depend on the hood model we choose and its dimensions. We might have to build a box out of lumber in that space and trim it out with cover panels to hide the lumber. We only have 8' ceilings so if my calculations are correct, we should have about 5" after considering the deco strip and the hood height and distance from cooktop.

Yup. You could cut the ~15" cabinet sides and then drill new holes in the sides for the wooden plugs and metal connectors that hold the cabinet together. You'd also have to add some wood to the inside of the cabinet to which you'll attach the drawer front (since you won't have a drawer to which to attach the drawer front).

Sure it's worth the effort rather than keeping the standard 15" cabinet with a shorter hood? You would lose some storage space your way. And don't forget you may need space for the ductwork above the hood.
