Hand Crank Apple Peeler
Comments (19)I'm too late, but I also use one of those, with the suction cup bottom. Elery and I managed to peel/core/slice a half bushel of MacIntosh in about 20 minutes so that I could dry them. I also did a roaster full of apple butter, just dumped the peeled/cored/sliced apples into a big electric roaster, dumped in a couple of cups of apple cider and turned it on 350. I stirred down a couple of times so the apples on the top could cook down into the liquid. A buzz with the hand held blender and it was ready to add sugar and spices, then a few more hours on 350 and it was ready to can. Worked like a charm, I was happy. Comments (68)I finally figured out the history of CG strains in the U.S. I have grown so many different ones. Costoluto Florentino appears to be consistent from different sources, but every seller has a totally different CG. That is the reason for the strongly varying reviews. There is not one CG tomato cultivar in the U.S. There are many different plants sharing the same name. I started growing CG from Pinetree seed over 10 years ago. It was a fabulous tasty large tomato, perfect for cooking and eating. Over a few years, that packet of seed was used up. Since then, I have bought from many sources to try to find the original wonderful CG. Never found it. But last year I found seed that I had saved from the original. I was so excited. They had listed my original CG as an OP. Well, the original seed that I got from Pinetree was definitely a hybrid. The plants that I grew this year are clearly F2s. Every plant was totally different. Size ranged from one inch to about 3 inches. Some fluted, some smooth, some in-between. The only one that was highly fluted, like the original CG, was only an inch across. (Cute little fellow.) Most tasted good, but not as great as the original. The only possible explanation is that my original seeds were hybrids listed as OPs. That also explains why every seller whose seeds I have bought has a totally different plant named CG. The first CGs brought into the country must have been hybrids, and different companies grew out different versions. I would have loved to grow my old beefsteak CG again, but that will probably never happen. But there is an alternative. PanAm used one of the GCs to cross with Brandywine, producing Genuine, which is comparable to the original fabulous CG. It looks the same, highly fluted. It is beefsteak size. Taste is better than any of the CGs that I have grown for 10 years. It is dense for cooking, like the original. It is the most productive tomato that I have ever grown. I have had it two years now, and it has been equally outstanding both years. People who got plants last year requested it again. I am giving up the quest for the original great CG, and using Genuine to replace it....See MoreFood Processor - Old Cuisinart, New Cuisinart, Used Robot Coupe?
Comments (129)I have both, a basic model Cuisinart made in Japan and a Robot Coupe made in France. Both vintage. Both machines are heavy duty and should be able to handle any duties required in the home. Interestingly the parts from the Cuisinart fit and work on the Robot Coupe but not vise-versa. I suggest that all parts and blades be washed by hand. Do not place these parts in the dishwasher. The heat of the dishwasher drying mode will weaken the plastic of the parts. Also be careful when twisting the lid on and off the bowl to prevent the locking/power engagement pin from breaking. Most importantly DON'T DROP IT! If you have a machine with a malfunctioning locking/power engagement pin you could manually depress the button using a pen or knitting needle. Be careful though as you no longer have the safety measures of the power engagement pin to protect you. The question about 3D printing your own bowl....This is not a viable solution for many reasons including: the plastic used has to be food safe. The bowl needs to be strong enough to handle the torque and stress of day to day use. And the plastic needs to be able to handle heat especially if you use the machine to puree hot items. Finding parts for these machines is difficult. Take good care of them and you should be enjoying your smoothies etc. For many many years. Happy cooking!...See MoreOh dear, another thread about Bosch vs. Assistent/DLX mixers!
Comments (104)To bzamp58 Hi, I make and decorate cakes. I have NO trouble at all with my recipes for doing cakes. I always use the roller. Just make sure you do the wet ingredients first. The add the dry. My cakes are light, moist, fluffy. (As with all recipes and the DLX the wet should go in first dry last). Thanksgiving...Whip Cream! My granddaughter is not too familiar with my DLX...was using white bowl and beaters, she said I can do the whip cream Gram. Huh well we had chunky almost butter whip cream! The look on her face was priceless. How we laughed! Just added a tablespoon of cream to the 2 cups whipped and consistency was fine for the pumpkin pie! And I am thrilled this year to have my DLX for all my Christmas cookie orders! So much easier! Last year I used my 1980 Kitchen Aid and did 3000 cookies in three weeks. I had been so booked with wedding cookies so got a late start! Still got a late start this year cause we did a total "kitchen make-over"! But now my wonderful DLX and new kitchen...I am so blessed! Time to get Pecan Tassies out of oven. May all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!...See Moreparty_music50
