Colonial living room design/layout help please. 2 windows and 4 door

Would appreciate any guidance on how you would layout this living room. The piano must stay, although it isn't really used anymore. I have provided some photos along with dimensions and an example layout. This is not our main TV/family room. Would two small love-seats be something that could be considered? Also, what type of textures and colors are typically recommend to go with the piano? Thanks!

Pretty room! Your furniture layout looks nice, but might one of the loveseats be too close to the piano bench? If so, I would consider putting a full length couch on the wall facing the fireplace and, in an L-shaped pattern, a loveseat or two side-by-side chairs facing the piano. A side table can be placed between the couch and chairs, with a coffee table in front of the couch.

Thank you for the feedback Jay06. Yes, we have had a sofa against that wall before, and it does probably makes the most sense. That wall is a little short for side table(s) and a couch, cramped the doorways. And then to have the coffee table a useful distance from the couch, it brought other furniture pieces even closer to the doorways. This left more open room near the fireplace, and created a weird traffic flow. It is somewhat difficult to describe, but is why we are trying considering other options. But against the wall may just be the best. Thanks again for your response.

justgottabme: Yes! excellent plan! The Tv needs to be in that corner next to the fireplace -- either mounted on the wall or sitting on a console or cabinet. Having a cabinet in that spot would anchor that whole corner. And more excellent ideas above too! Love the idea of bookshelves in each of the corners -- perhaps just try basic Ikea Billy shelving -- or other build-it-yourself shelves (try stores like Targer or Walmart)-- just to see if that plan will work for you? Or look for vintage shelving or bookcases on your local Craigs List! Swivel chairs can be found -- check your local Craigs List! But for now -- once you move the TV -- try placing one sofa facing the fireplace -- and another one facing the window -- forming the classic L-shape.

I hope you don’t have 1/2 the stuff they crammed into that space. IMO there is no way to arrange furniture to sit around that fireplace that should be removed and replaced with one actually meant to be a focal point.We have no idea of your style so hard to tell you waht to fill a space with but I would make 2 sitting areas one with the TV and one where the fireplace should go which is where you think you will have the T.V. I think that is a solid wall beside the planyt at the bottom of the space.

How far out from tv wall will bookcases etc stick out? That is limiting factor. A 9 x 12’ could sit under swivel chair and run to opposite wall leaving about 12” of flooring and go from front edge of bookcase TV Area toward and under sofa. That would keep you in standard size rug. We would have to be careful of any pattern so it would look right. What wall color are you planning? What trim color? Ceiling color? Main furniture colors. In other words what is your color palette.

I think the sofa is too big for the room and for the furniture.....return it and keep looking.....you could take one of the end tables with you when you shop to see if the scale works with the table.....you might consider something long and sleek and not so fat....... I found these pics for inspiration for sofa and white rooms......the rug is minimasslist in pattern, so you might consider going that design way. Lots of legs in the room but gives a lighter look for more furnishing in the room. long low leggy with a low leggy chaise end. doable Again smaller tables with slim lined sofa with long low leggy.....your room is not really roomy so you are on the right track for mcm. Also tried to find white paint.....which is your room color choice?

In searching for possible love-seat options, would a seating width of 46" be considered too cramped for two adults to sit comfortably. I came across this one, but just not sure if two of these would work. Or maybe there just isn't enough room for this type of layout work in my living room.

Hi. I've reproduced your room in a 3D build to help you visualize in a better way. To maintain a foot flow I have centered the sofa facing each other. You can add one or more swivel chairs which you can tuck away or corner them when not in use. Mounted tv on a wooden panel opposite the fireplace. This way it serves as a family room as well as an entertainment room. Perfect for a winter evening when it's too chilly to leave the fireplace but also wouldn't miss your favorite show. If you can get rid of the piano, you can place two chairs and a bookshelf and create a little reading space.
