How to level floor up to existing vinyl sheet floor?

We just purchased our home and tore up carpet in the dining room. next on the list was the removal of vinyl sheet flooring in the adjoining kitchen and hallway. The plan was to lay down luxury vinyl plank flooring once everything was scraped clean to the concrete slab. It’s a home built before the 80s so we had the flooring tested and... womp womp... it contains asbestos.

We don’t want to disturb the vinyl sheet flooring for obvious reasons, but now I need to find the best way to level the floor with the existing vinyl sheet flooring. Would going with an underlayment with similar thickness be ok?

Thank you for any suggestions!
