The design of the doors would depend on the house design, for me. What kind of house is it, architecturally? What styles do you like? Traditional, modern, etc.

Agree with Beverly to pick door based on the architecture of your house. Re door hardware------dont buy anything until you have actually felt it in your own hand. Many lever type handles are too thin and feel cheap, or arent shaped correctly and feel awkward in your hand. A really nice handle, whether a lever type or doorknob, will feel great and be easy to use. We have seven exterior doors and have replaced the hardware on six and i can honestly say it is a pleasure to open and close those doors with a solid, well designed and substantial handle. We left the front door alone because the doorknob is integrated into a larger brass plate, very pricey (here from previous owner) and looks fantastic when the brass is polished, but it does not feel as satisfying as opening the other doors, so its not just about money.

Not a pro ... but Loathe "fixed" windows ... but I live in a rural area, have plenty of shade around my home, wider than average roof overhang on all but one (site of a future porch, hopefully, and I choose to leave my windows open from early spring thru late fall. To me, side/slide windows (without the internal cross pieces intended to make them look as if they have six or more small window panes), especially window and door frames with narrower frames (especially metal) and dark (black) color, have a much more modern look than any lift/raise window made of any material. Don't sacrafice the practical for a look you currently like -- tastes change. Do choose double window panes rated (heat/cold) for your area.

I think it depends a little on what the panels on the doors look like. They could be shaker style, traditional, modern, or something else I haven't listed. They could be very rustic/cabiny! The style of the panels would guide my decision. If they're shaker style, I would look for some shaker trim designs. If they are traditional, with several grooves in the panels, I would consider something more elaborate. I hope that helps!
