Need help choosing window treatment fabric
Comments (24)That cute fabric is from Clarke & Clarke. The problem with the new vintage look fabric is that it is such a large print. Seems like everything is "Go big or go home" these days, like the new wallpaper designs. Looking at the new pictures of your windows, I don't really think valances is the way to go. It seems to make them top heavy. I love the look of the curtain on the lower half of the window. After you paint your door and trim see what you think of your new breakfast room. Comments (53)So, your double pane U-Factor appears to be a 0.27. Good, but what about that "will add thermal performance that far exceeds the vinyl options". I am quoting you directly from above about 6 posts ago. There are more than a handful of vinyl windows that will best that thermal performance in the case of double pane and more than a handful that equal or best the thermal performance numbers that you show in triple pane. To be certain, 0.15 is a good U-Factor, but it is only equivalent in this case to just the handful of vinyl windows that I know of personally not to mention the more exotics that are designed solely around performance. I do love nice wood windows, but to claim they are more efficient because of the wood is sketchy science to put it mildly....See MoreWindow treatment help for most natural minimal look

Comments (4)Hi, nilofera, I wish I could help you out more with advice on Kolbe and Marvin but our company doesn't work with Kolbe products and we don't often use Marvin except for some specialty window styles. We are a big fan of Andersen though. We highly recommend them because of the quality of the product and service. Here are a couple of houses we did this year with Black Andersen E-Series windows. They're both more traditional in style and they have Low-E 366 glass. The first one has grids and the second does not have grids. The second also has views from the interior of the house so you can see what it's like to look through the glass, sometimes the darker exterior makes people hesitant but it's hardly noticeable from the interior. We recommend Low-E 366 for our clients because it has a lower solar heat gain coefficient which benefits our Texas homeowners. A lower SHGC rating means the window glass does a better job of shading and preventing heat gain from the sun which is especially important for us in the summer months. I would recommend choosing the glass that's going to offer the best energy ratings. Compare the NFRC ratings of your windows and if the difference isn't significant then I'd go with the more affordable option as long as it meets energy requirements. What is your contractor recommending? - Ariana...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
