Every single one of you has given me excellent advice here, thank you! Artemis78 and pinch_me - yes I've been planning/hoping for a wall-mounted faucet, along with the idea of being sure to have enough extra tile to fill it in later should I go the deck-mounted route in the [hopefully distant] future. I asked my contractor and he said it's no big deal to just block off that wall plumbing at a later date and have it re-routed to the deck should I change my mind later. That seems like the best compromise. Now it's just back to trying to find a wall-mounted faucet that has a sprayer option and isn't too obnoxiously large. The 3 options appear to be: the kind that have the external hose that has a wall-mounted cradle (if that's the right word) or hook, but then the hose just dangles in the sink; or the Jaclo Original Steam Valve wall faucet which has the pull-off hose (camouflaged to look at a short distance as if no hose is sitting atop the gooseneck), but the goosenecks are very high - possibly too high; or getting a solid stainless steel wall-mounted faucet (so far it's either Jaclo or Kohler's HiRise brands only, that I can find anyway) and then get the new Kohler independent HiRise side spray that's unfortunately deck-mounted but would match either of those brands nicely cause it too is solid stainless steel in the same offered finishes (brushed or polished). But putting a hole in the deck seems to defeat the purpose. The problem with the Kohler HiRise wall faucet is that it's very plain looking and w/ my intended marble subway tile backsplash, I thought it needed porcelain levers to fit in better. The Jaclo offers GORGEOUS porcelain (as well as cross/wheel) handles in both white and black with a thin silver (stainless) strip on them even. It's an amazing touch - especially the unpredictably attractive black levers. I just gotta determine whether that's just too darn high a gooseneck for my tiny space. At the moment I'm thinking that or else throwing in the towel and getting a single-hole deck-mounted faucet to save money since I'm going so far over budget...now that I know they have hole covers anyway (should I switch to something different, later)! :)

Live_Wire_Oak...is that interior or exterior/overall width? I'm asking, b/c when we were looking for a sink, our KD told us the overall width (i.e., exterior width) of the sink we chose should be no more than 1/2" narrower than our sink base. So, a 36" sink base meant a sink no wider than 35-1/2". We ended up with sink that had an exterior/overall width of 35-1/8" wide that fit in our sink base with no alterations needed. Our cabinet walls are 1/2". Based on my experience, it appears if you wish to install a sink w/no alterations to your sink base, then your sink should have an exterior width of no more than: Width of Sink Base - 2 x Width of Cabinet Walls (or, no wider than the interior opening of the cabinet...but if you don't have your cabinets yet, you cannot measure that!) Additionally, you need to know three other things: How thick is your subway tile + hardibacker or similar board behind it if that board is mounted on top of drywall and is not the wall itself. Faucet dimensions...you need to know what faucet you're getting if you want to be certain it will fit. Some faucets need several inches behind them to work properly...handles that go back, wide stems, etc. So, check your chosen faucet's specs to see how much space you need behind the faucet. Also, if you have an undermount sink, the faucet holes cannot be drilled right at the back of the sink. You will need a little more than 1" b/w the sink & the faucet hole. The width of the stem of the faucet will vary depending on the faucet. Window (I know, you have no window, but others might): If there's a window behind your sink If window is not counter-height (~36"), the sill height & depth If window is counter-height, and has no sill, the depth of the window well If window is counter-height, and has a sill, the depth of the window well and the depth & height of the sill (may be negligible height-wise, but do need to be sure it won't impact the amount of space available for the faucet hole.) CalypsoChick...if you look at this picture, the measurements, you can see the overall width of 35-1/8". It was narrow enough to fit in a 36" wide sink base with 1/2" walls with no alteration. Notes about your other sink choices: First, though, you say you have a 24" sink base, but you really appear to have a 30" sink base...you need to confirm that with your KD or GC (or whoever did the final design and ordered or will order the cabinets) b/f you can decide on a sink. Meanwhile... Well, our faucet found us yesterday :) We were at the building supply store buying flashing and foundation waterproofer and other necessary but not very exciting stuff, and at the checkout was a little flyer with "50% off closeout faucets". The display was tiny, there was only ONE kitchen faucet on it, everything else was bathroom faucets and shower fixtures. But it was our faucet, fitting every requirement, a Delta in brushed SS for $150 marked down from $350. Nothing fancy, but just what we wanted.

michael, I think you'll be saving yourself a headache by going a little smaller front-to-back on the sink. My faucet is standard diameter (forget what that is),drilled 2.75" on center back from the sink edge which is also standard. I did go smaller on the prep cabinet width than the manufacturer recommended but I calculated every dimension and knew exactly how much the cabinet sides needed to be routered to accomodate it. Sorry vegetarian, I still haven't done pictures but it's a pretty conventional setup; rectangular sink, single hole faucet centered behind, soap dispenser on the right. Sink is the Elkay 2115, faucet Blanco Classic, KWC Primo soap dispenser. gneegirl, you shouldn't have an issue since with a D sink the faucet is usually mounted at the corner where the sink curves in. You won't be able to mount it behind the sink. You can probably go a little bigger than 16" with a rectangular and be OK. My kitchen is small and I got the same size undermount sink that I had in my old kitchen as a drop in - 15x21. It's big enough to put cookie sheets and 30" wall oven racks flat on the bottom. The undermount does feel smaller than the drop in and I'm a little sorry I didn't go for the 23" Kindred. Dirty dishes go directly into the dishwasher drawers so the only thing in the sink might be pots soaking so size is not a big issue. I have a separate prep sink near the cooktop.
