Comments (2)VERY likely asbestos. Can be removed if soaked w/ water thoroughly and handled meticulously, but you do so at your own risk....See MoreOld cookbook restored
Comments (19)I love handmade books and I loved that coptic book binding, but boy oh boy, not for this klutz! :) I wish I had the patience for such things though. I adore origami too but have never been able to do it. I would do a shadow box. Do you have anything else from back then, like a salt shaker or matchbox or something. I have all of grandma and bubbe's old stuff, mom threw it out and I salvaged it. It is worn as can be but I still hang on to using it. Sadly I have no next generation to hand it down to. I could give it to cousins' kids but not sure what they would want with all this worn out old stuff anyway, since they have no memories from it....See MoreRestoring old wooden pilliars
Comments (6)Did you srtip and sand down to the bare wood on the pillars , I don't think so .Sanding alone will not work all the finish needs to be gone and then all the nicks need filling with a good wood filler and sanded smooth like the rest of the finish then n you can stain, after testing to make sure the color is right ,the whole make sure you use the proper wood filler too. As for the 1/4 round why did you not install the flooring better so that 1/4 round was not needed around that built in at all. You do know that the 1/4 round on the cabinet will not take the stin the same as the rest so be prepared to play with that or replace with the same wood as the cabinet Thjis is not restoring pillars this is a cabinet....See MoreCan restored 100 year old fir doors be made to look less orange?
Comments (11)@User. I get that I can't change the basic color of the wood. What I want to do..,if it's possible and reasonable....is add an appropriate wood dye (water based or oil based) few drops of a blue/grey to the clear finish coat to offset some of the orange tones in the wood itself. Since blue is the complement to orange, it SHOULD make it appear to be a bit less obviously orange and a bit more grey/brown, It's sort of the same principle as women with white or silver hair that add a touch of blue/purple shampoo to offset any brassy/yellowish tones in their hair and make it appear more brilliant white or shiny grey/silver. It doesn't really dye the hair, it's just a surface coat. The thing is the guy who is restoring my old doors is rather old fashioned AND we have a bit of a language problem (He's Italian, my Italian is as yet almost nonexistent) and before I go pushing this on him, I want to ensure it's actually a sound plan!...See MoreHU-527663426
