Introducing myself - I'll try to keep this short
Comments (23)Lauraeli, LOL! I was wondering if anybody would notice my ponies! Merkity, thanks! Yeah, it is Spanish moss. I just chuck it in the sink for a couple of hours when it starts to look dry and that seems to keep it happy. Also I keep it out of direct sun. Thanks, Karin! Your bench isnâÂÂt so bad either! Those lights! Caw. The only real artificial lighting I have is a cheap aquarium LED tube over a terrarium. Glass would be fine. Fortyseven makes a good point. Plus before I made my shelf, I used to grow my cuttings in old fish tanks. It worked fine. I even remember once putting a plant under a desk lamp in a dark corner. Definitely no UV there, but the plant didnâÂÂt seem to notice! And actually, come to think of it, I think my perspex was UV resistant anyway⦠The only problem you might have with glass is its weight. But if you want to make something less big and unwieldy than I did, that probably wouldnâÂÂt be an issue. My shelf is narrow and the struts are quite flexible, so it falls over easily when itâÂÂs not jammed between the bench and the shower⦠if I move house, I think IâÂÂll have to bolt it to the wall or something....See MoreThink I'll try again...
Comments (2)Usually roses are not to be fed when it's hot, but just before and after, so in early spring (to give them a good start) and at the beginning of autumn, for a good "last display" of flowers before they stop. I agree that HT roses are very disease prone, even those who are more resistant cannot live healthy on their own. You could try the knockout roses (pink, red, single and double), and the china roses: these are very healthy and love the sun. They are zero maintenance or nearly-zero m. Regardless of the roses you will choose, remember that the best remedy for all diseases is prevention. The best prevention is a good exposition: sun, light, and especially air: air must circulate. This will prevent fungal diseases a lot. Give this to an extremely healthy rose such as knockout or mutabilis, and you will never see diseases. The rose bed: remember roses love space, so you have to imagine them full grown, to plant them with the correct distance. Dig a deep hole and fill it with very fertile earth. If you do not have a good drainage, add some (only some!) sand to the earth and put some small stones at the bottom of the hole: these will help improving the drainage. PS: a slightly acid soil is ideal; anything with a bit of peat will do...See MoreGonna Try Some Baker Creek Heirlooms This Fall
Comments (13)AHA, Tony...but DID YOU TASTE IT??? One man's "tart is another man's sweetie"!!! Taste is so personal and how can you tell me what something tastes like if you did not taste it yourself??? Hmmm?? I have been unimpressed even put off with the taste of tomatoes others have raved about and yet loved the flavor of tomatoes others call boring. You can't judge a tomato by the way someone else tastes it! Sorry, sounds like a soap box. I love ya Tony and I know ya hate tomatoes, but you have grown so many and given us so much tomato advice, just this time...I had to call ya on it. Tomatoes are so diversified in flavour! Shoot, I don't think I can explain it right. Everyone has a different taster!! Treefroggie, Sumala, Tom, Denise, Scents-Linda, Larry, Moe, Curley...help me here I think I have gone over the edge!! I can't seem to say it right!...See MoreSome day I'll get new counters (pic hvy)...
Comments (9)Your sign says "coffee time" - do you actually have your coffee pot out on the counter all the time? (although you could be like me and just zap water for instant). If so, could you switch the microwave and the coffeepot and make this a real coffee centre. Put up more mugs, a pretty sugar bowl etc, and then paint the cabinet a dark blue or a blue that will tie in the blues that you have in your sign and in the counter. Make it a go-to place for making tea and coffee - a little place in the kitchen with an extra splash of personality. The blue would look neat against your wall colour. (Although you could do the same thing even if you use the microwave for zapping hot water for coffee/tea.)...See MoreSheila z8a Rogue Valley OR
