sport pool ?
Comments (13)I suppose I'll be the dissenting opinion. We had a sport pool at our last house, I greatly disliked it from the beginning, and we outgrew it within 3 years. My kids were 9, 8, and 4 when we moved in. The pool was great for them at that age, but I never liked it. I hated that to jump in, I had to scrunch my legs up. I hated the sides being too shallow. The kids (and their friends) grew quickly. Half of the time spent "swimming" was really spent jumping in/getting out, jumping in/getting out. As they grew, that became less and less fun for them. I can count on one hand how many times we played volleyball. (Exactly twice, both games lasted only about 10 minutes.) We bought a house with a diving pool and couldn't be happier. The kids are 16, 14, and 10 right now, and ALL of them still use the pool. The number one activity is STILL getting out/jumping in, only now we can all do that, and it's much more fun. My last pool had a slide, and I recently asked the kids and their friends who were over swimming if they liked our old pool better, or the new one. I thought maybe they'd say the old one, because the slide did get a lot of usage. But across the board, they all said they liked the new pool better. I think you have to ask yourself how your family enjoys the pool. If you're a lounging, volleyball/football playing sort of family, you'll probably be thrilled with a sport pool. But if you're like us, much preferring to jump in, dive to the bottom, swim under each others' legs, etc., you'll find yourself longing for a deeper pool. Just my $.02. :)...See MoreSports Pool or Traditional shallow to deep end?
Comments (6)Although we have plenty of land, due to the outdoor fireplace and patio that's already there, an L shape just wouldn't fit the space properly. I'd love an L shape though, then it's a win-win! Pretty sure we need to stick to a rectangle shape in our space. Still torn... I personally want more shallow, but with three wild and crazy boys (and all their friends), I don't want anyone to get hurt diving into too shallow of water. Hmmm.....See Moreover the deep end
Comments (18)I really like Sylvia's suggestion, however, eventually your wrists get all kinds of bumps, bruises and scars. Not a particularly good thing, unless you want to look like a soon-to-be psych patient by the end of the week. Been there done that!!! From what I've read it's completely natural to sit there and obsess about what she thinks. I do it myself, and Jerri on your line: "In my case, bm does bad mouth me to sd and my dh. She often fabricates stuff that I supposedly did  how can I not be bugged about that? I believe that she is mentally and verbally abusive to her daughter and I worry that her live in boy friend is too. How can I not worry about that?" Ditto. I know they're abusive to my SD, and I sit and dwell on it ALL weekend when she's there. We literally sleep with our cell phones on the bed just in case she needs us to come get her! I know this isn't healthy, and I have to say I'm in agreement with everyone about our "controlling" personalities (we're mothers! of course we want to be in control of things!). I think that's WHY we sit and dwell on this. We can't control this other entity, and it's annoying as hell. We work so hard to be there for these children and then BM comes along and with a few words can turn a happy child into a loathing, obnoxious creature towards us. All because she can. "well what's she doing now?" "what is she saying now?" "why the hell is she looking at MY man that way?" and most importantly "Who the hell does she think she is walking into my home and plopping her ass down on the sofa like she owns the place??!!??" Could it be that we admire them? Probably not. WE obviously have what they wanted at some point and don't now. Admire a woman who abuses her child and/or lets someone else abuse her child. HELL no! Admire a woman who will use her child as a weapon or a bartering tool? I'd rather slam my boobs in the car door!...See MoreDeciding to install pool/spa. Advice please!
Comments (33)We have our second house in the Palm Springs area (Cathedral City) and would not have bought any house that did not have a pool. Our pool is about 12' wide (irregular shape) and 30' long. One end is quite deep, and the shallow end is about chest deep. The spa is 7'x7' and is large enough for the two of us, but we've had four in it comfortably. We also have an above ground hot tub in Los Angeles, about 2-1/2 miles from the beach, and it is probably 6'x6' - I'm not there right now, and so I'm not exactly sure. Anyway, it is supposed to accommodate four to six people, but they would have to be children. For us, three is the limit. Right now our pool is 86° without using the heater, and it takes about 15 minutes to heat the spa to 102°. In the winter it takes a bit longer, but since I heat the pool to 85° in the winter anyway, the spa heats up quickly. It does take about a day to heat the pool in the dead of winter (December) - otherwise the water would be about 55°, I think. I have not noticed an excessive gas bill when we do heat it, however. We have a pool maintenance company that comes twice a week and charges $175 a month. We need this because we are not here all the time. If we lived here full time, it might be different. I think it would be difficult to sell a house in Palm Springs without a pool, and most of them seem to have one. We were willing to consider a house without a pool but room for a large pool, but it would have had to be $100k less than what we would pay for a house already with a pool. I don't need the pool to be refreshing - I prefer warm relaxing water, even when it is 110° outside....See MoreMystic Pools, LLC
