Need help hanging art in living room!
I am decorating my new apartment, and I need help figuring out how to arrange art on our living room walls. I have a piece of art I inherited from my aunt that I would love to hang over my couch. I love the art, but It’s too small for the space. Any advice about how to hang this art? Flank the big picture with smaller pictures? The colors in the room are navy/ green/gold/rose. In the photos below, I leaned the art on the couch against the wall. I also included a photo of our rug (to see living room colors), as well as a photo of the wall next to the couch (please ignore our book mess as we organize our books!)

Comments (18)The wall color is SW Ramie. The chair was my grandmothers, and it is just sort of a placeholder right now. I have been searching for new chairs. I would really like to get 2 chairs, but I am unsure how to arrange everything. I would also like to get a new rug--I've been coveting a real hand-knotted forever. The current rug is very nice, 100% wool Couristan machine woven. It is in the same line as My3dog's lovely living room rug. They have been selling this line of rugs in the last year at Tuesday morning for less than half price. It doesn't come off quite as pale in person. I want to eventually move it into my bedroom, where it will be perfect. Does anyone have recommendations for a rug? What color scheme? I really like some of the orientals that are a bit more modern without a really tight or busy pattern. Something maybe like this: This rug is from Williams Sonoma home, and is way out of my price range at over $2K. Is it possible to get a hand-knotted for around $1K? Comments (31)Thanks all. I did go with the Allure Blossom. It's coming today. I don't think I could go with a mirror on that wall because there is a hutch to the right which has mirrors in it. I really like the purple and yellow bowl from Pier One; will see if they still have it or something similar. Might be sending more pictures of my next dilemma in the living room. Comments (12)DH started collecting the Noah's Ark prints before we were married. He likes the artist and he wanted to gave the whole set. They do make great conversation pieces...any time someone comes into our house they comment on them and spend a couple minutes looking at them. They're not my favorites but since he lives in the house too... And we have 3300 sq ft so there should be plenty of room to hang these along with artwork that's more to my liking. Here's the artwork we currently have. The first one is the only one I really like. The last one is the largest. This is a graphite drawing we got on our honeymoon...thinking of putting it in a larger frame with a mat and put it on the buffet. 4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoIt’s a Fauvist painting by André Derain “Les arbres” (original is in the Albright-Knox). Maybe look for another Fauvist painting to display on the same wall. One of my favorites is by Matisse...

Per the first question, this is a photo of the whole space. The room is 22x13. All furniture, bookshelves, and pillows are staying; I love them all. Just trying to figure out how to decorate the couch wall.

4 years agoVery nice room. I like your painting; I don’t think it works on it’s own but.... it can work as part of a collection. I think that would be a great look in this space. You don’t need to do this all at one time. Start collecting art you love and adding it to the wall, vintage pieces with old frames can look wonderful too in this eclectic space.
