Help? -- Open shelving backsplash advice, please. *pics*
Comments (4)I'm aassuming that you have a cabinet with counter in the base of your alcove. If so, I like the "tile up to the shelf" photo. From the style of your brackets, it looks like yours is a traditional or even period kitchen, no? If so, then what was done in the inspiration photo should work fine. There is a strip of wood run vertically under the shelf, and the brackets are affixed to that (probably through the vertical piece and into a stud). Then the tile runs up to that strip of wood - clean and no fuss/no muss. Your "tile up to the brackets" photo shows what appears to be a shelf "unit" where there is no bracket under the lowest shelf -- the lowest shelf appears to be hung from a bracket above it. That is also a good option, but a bit more contemporary looking and doesn't make use of your brackets. In a period/cottage kitchen I don't see the need to tile to the ceiling in an alcove that doewsn't hold a sink or a range....See MoreBacksplash advice please!
Comments (2)This is a very pretty inspiration. I am not familiar with either the granite you have or this backsplash - but really the only way to tell if it will go is to get samples and bring them home to look at it. It is really hard to match colors just based on pictures. The inspiration photos are great places to start so you know what you are looking for - but you really need to see in person....See MoreHearth-style range hood BACKSPLASH advice, please.
Comments (10)Some ranges do require up to 12" for combustible surfaces on each side, many seem to require 6". If you have at least 9" that would also meet the minimum side set down recommendations as well. I would make sure the underlying surface behind the back of the top is also noncombustible including down behind the back of the cooktop which is also required by some. (Also some require use of their supplied high back guard for certain installations. Following the specs is very important because even if it passes inspection if your kitchen did catch fire, your homeowner's insurance could be voided if you do not follow the specs....See MoreGranite behind range??? Comments (26)Yeah --I was afraid lol but calmer now. Glad you told me that, I really was thinking someone else has access... I don't take things like that lightly, very serious when you consider this is a website where you can buy things.... You would still have to enter your purchasing info. Credit card and so on....really nothing to get that upset over when messages on a forum disappear....See Morechispa
