Comments (22)Welcome to the Bianco Antico Club. This is such a great stone. I struggled endlessly to find the right thing for my kitchen. I ended up winning a backsplash in a contest. It is a Beveled Arabesque tile. I wanted something that would have some pizazz but not steal anything from the granite. I will once again post my kitchen backsplash to see, I'm so sorry for boring all the GW'ers out there! The tile is from Mission Stone & Tile. Each tile is handmade and they have a slight wave on the surface due to this. It creates the coolest look when the uc lights are on, they kind of glisten. There was a strong contender earlier that picked up the taupes in the granite. It was by Mandala, the color is stingray. Not sure if it would work with your dark cabinets, but here is srg215's kitchen, I suggested it to her and she checked it out and fell in love. You can get it in several sizes. I've linked her kitchen below. With this granite, I found a small tile/mosaic will not work, it's too busy, too competitive. I think you need something on a larger scale. Best of luck. Let me know if you have any questions. Here is a link that might be useful: srg215's kitchen with Bianco Antico granite...See MoreHearth-style range hood BACKSPLASH advice, please.
Comments (10)Some ranges do require up to 12" for combustible surfaces on each side, many seem to require 6". If you have at least 9" that would also meet the minimum side set down recommendations as well. I would make sure the underlying surface behind the back of the top is also noncombustible including down behind the back of the cooktop which is also required by some. (Also some require use of their supplied high back guard for certain installations. Following the specs is very important because even if it passes inspection if your kitchen did catch fire, your homeowner's insurance could be voided if you do not follow the specs....See MoreIs it safe to use quartz as a backsplash behind a range?
Comments (89)This thread has been very informative for me as we are just starting a kitchen reno, so thank you to all contributors. We plan to do a quartz backsplash, including behind a 30" wide residential gas cooktop (not a range or stove). Please bear with me as I continue to explain! I looked at the specs of the cooktop I was planning to order. Based on those specs and assumption the new quartz countertop depth is 25.5" (I know assumptions are risky, but since 25.5" is what we have now and considered standard, I'm going with that for this example), my calculations are: 25.5" (countertop depth) - 21.25" (cooktop depth) - 3" (min distance from rear wall) - 1.875" (min distance from counter front) = -0.625" Which means I'm 5/8" short, and this isn't taking into account the thickness of the quartz backsplash, which I believe should not be included in the 3" from rear wall guideline from the cooktop manufacturer. Sorry if I'm hurting anyone's brain with math today! Just looking for some validation my logic is correct in how I should be calculating. And also curious if my belief the distance from the rear of the cooktop to the front of the quartz backsplash (not wall) should be 3." I plan to look for a different cooktop, hopefully one that is closer to 20" deep and add the backguard just to be safe (thanks to @Elizabeth Alvarez Sell for sharing her backguard photo)!...See MoreRelated Professionals
