Mikewood, our granite is called Golden Crystal. I don't have photos of our backsplash installed, but was inspired by Kellienoelle's (link attached to her reveal post). It's Crossville RetroActive in empress white- unpolished (so no sheen, a very matte finish), in the longer rectangular shape to set it apart from traditional subway. It's also not a stark white, but almost an antique white, even a tad gray in some light, both coordinate with our counter. My DH too was convinced we needed travertine because he "liked the way it looks." And he was leery of a white tile in subway shape for fear of it seeming like a bathroom. I love travertine, but not with our granite. It sometimes takes a lot of convincing to get someone out of their preconceived notions. While the backsplash may be considered boring by some, it offsets our beautiful granite and cabinets perfectly. It's the perfect backdrop, and our granite's the star. We are in the process of installing that exact look, only we went with a local tile shop and got it a few dollars cheaper per sq ft and it is a superior quality product then what we saw at home depot. It came with a protective film over the front of the tile to protect it while installing it. We are having trouble with the black grout we got going light gray an we don't know how to fix it yet. Laying the tile went perfectly though. One thing we did that saved a lot of trouble was we bought a sheet of the 2x2" SS tiles to fill in the edges instead of having to cut half tiles. We only had to actually cut a handful of tiles for the inside corner of the backsplash and for a few electrical outlets, but all of these cuts will be covered by outlet covers and by the next row of tiles in the case of the corner. It looks awesome (except for our grout problems)

If you were going to use it as a countertop, I'd say yes, consider scratches as an imminent aspect of the finish. But as a backsplash? Not that many scratches. We've had our stainless backsplash behind the stove since 2004 and no scratches yet. It still cleans up beautifully and makes me smile. Honestly, I wouldn't have wanted anything else there, except maybe glass, but I'd have been more worried about that from a temperature point of view. We do have sicis waterglass on the rest of the backsplash, and I'll tell you I haven't had any scratching there, either!
