How to arrange furniture in family room? Asymmetrical walls.
I can't figure out how to arrange the furniture in my living room/family room (on the left). The wall near the stairs is not parallel to the wall between the windows. Everything looks off-center. This is our main living room/family room where we watch tv as a family of 5 and entertain guests.
I'm open to adding built-ins / electric fireplace since we don't have one. Adding an inspiration photo too.
Would appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

To me, this looks ideal - kids zone at the end of the room with shelving and baskets for storage, TV on wall by windows with couch facing it. Comments (39)Move round table toward wall for now so you have a pathway to slider door. Not sure what the person you had helping was thinking but we ALWAYS map out walkways and “transportation” around and between rooms. The basic furniture is too large for your space but this is probably best arrangement for now. At some point, I would put chairs in a media room or game room. Two smaller scale swivel chairs in a complimentary fabric would improve everything. A “gate leg” table behind sofa would serve dual purpose. When leaf is raised 3 could eat a meal. Comments (2)Hi Nita, For a family room with large openings like this, you might want to consider a circular/organic shaped sofa as a center piece and leave the circulation around it . Because linear sofas are difficult to align with the walls, and they would not be as successful in creating a center place where the family can gather together. Hope this helps!...See More

4 years agoInstall TV on the stair wall. Many pros put all the TV gear in a closet under the stairs and out of sight. Arrange a seating area in that 12 x 14 area. A sofa and 2 chairs would work well. In the area by the sliders and kitchen peninsula, flank the window with a pair of chairs, perhaps with footstools) and a lamp for a reading area. Once you in stall curtains, a lot of the large wall between the windows will be covered by drapes. Between those you might consider a family portrait gallery with over sized canvases, or just a great piece of art you love.
