Replacing GOLDEN OAK trim - updating with white?

We have a 30-year old home that has GOLDEN OAK trim, cabinets and flooring. The look of the wood is very dated and pretty orange. We now have to replace our windows, and since the window trim will also have to be replaced, we were thinking of making the big switch to white trim. Then, we were replace baseboard, etc.

However, we have very heavy, two-panel oak doors. They are somewhat unusual. Replacing them would be a big cost, but paining oak is not always successful.

What can we do? I'd like to keep the doors and a few other touches of the golden oak, but I'd really like a more modern appearance to the home.

The overall description of our home is "Soft Contemporary" which does not mean much, as far as we can tell.
