Wall mount range hood or under cabinet range hood?
Comments (5)If you look at the Modern-Aire site, they have several shapes where the front tapers at the top to the depth of an upper cabinet, and the sides are straight so as to butt up to, and cover, the yellow cabinet sides you mentioned. Their typical sizes are 18" and 30" high, but you could get a 24" custom one if your budget allows. Or you could get an 18" and have a box made for above it to cover that area and to which you could attach replacement moulding. The box could be made of either wood matching your moulding or sheetrock. Vent-a-hood has a stainless direct replacement if you decide to stick with the same size you now have. I'm attaching the link to the Modern-Aire page that shows their shapes. PS-10, PS-11, and PS-26 all have the characteristics I was talking about above. Comments (27)to trixieinthegarden - if I use an undercounter hood, don't I have to revent the whole thing? Or do all the under mounted models use recirculating vents? Right now, I have a nice arrangement that vents to the outside (I'm in a freestanding house, not an apartment) and I was hoping to keep this configuration (trying to save what remains of my budget!) Most are configured to vent through the top or through the back, sometimes offering both options. If you use a top-vented one you should be able to re-use your existing venting, depending on your vent size. Most take a 6 or 8 inch duct. The only thing that would be an issue for you is that undercabinet vent hoods usually have keyhole hangers for the back wall, so you would have to mount a strip just under your soffit at the back to mount the screws for the keyholes to hang. The vents are also attached through the bottom of the cabinet above so that takes much of the hanging weight....See MoreIs my ceiling to low for a chimney style range hood?
Comments (14)We have a chimney style stainless hood and our ceilings are less than 8'. I found it on Build.com (I believe it's kitchenaid I wouldn't recommend my particular hood though). You can filter your search on that site by ceiling height. I'll post a photo shortly....See MoreCeiling Joist does not allow range hood to be centered properly...
Comments (9)Joseph, are you saying that to reframe the joist to allow for the duct to be moved over is not a large project? Even though the ceiling has been dry walled and painted? That’s the resolution that we want, I just don’t know how much effort that would be and if it is realistic for me to expect our contractor to do so. Seems like they should have addressed when the room was demo’d to studs 🤷♂️...See More- 4 years ago
