Help! Need an island vent hood for a low (7ft) ceiling
Comments (2)My Wolf Pro Island hood (made a few years ago by Independent) is mounted via a 10-inch extension to an 8-foot ceiling. The hood is about 34 inches above the counter. Hence, without the extension on a 7-foot ceiling, the hood should be at roughly 32 inches. Checking my copy of the Wolf Design Guide (wolfdesignguide.pdf) shows that the present units are 18 inches high, so the gap to a standard 36-inch countertop when mounted to a seven-foot ceiling would be 2.5 feet or 30 inches. Custom hoods can be manufactured by such as ModernAire. kas...See MoreRange hood wish list - help needed choosing a hood
Comments (0)We're looking at under-cabinet 36" range hoods. Our cooktop is a 5-burner 59K BTU (Bosch 800 series). I will never use all five burners at once. Maybe three burners on occasion, but typically only two at a time. My range hood wish list: Works with existing 6" ducting Baffle filters CFM: 400 min to 700 max Buttons (rather than switches or knobs) Quiet on low speeds. I expect noise at high speed! Under $700 Finding such a hood is harder than I thought, mainly because I like to read reviews and I'm having trouble finding any (or many). Here are the ones I've been looking at: Windster RA 34L - 520cfm. Would be perfect, but I hesitate because I simply can't find any reviews. Kobe's CHX91 - 680cfm. looks like everything we want, but apparently it's horrible to install. Zephyr Hurricane - 695cfm. Great reviews and price, but it has residue cups instead of filters. Does anyone have experience with this model? Is it hard to clean? Zephyr Tempest I - 650cfm. On sale, it's still a little out of our price range. I can't find many reviews of this one either. I'd love feedback on these or comparable hoods. Thanks for being an awesome community!...See MoreHelp...need advice...my range hood is too low
Comments (17)I do not understand why people are fixated on hitting their heads on the hood. Seems to me the only way this is done is to put your face above a hot burner or pan. I can see it happening one maybe twice but you learn not to lean in so far. Kind of like when you were a kid and touched a hot oven and got burned, did it once and learned not to do it again. The hood looks fine, getting a shallower hood or moving it up might solve one problem but it will create more like grease not getting captured in the hood and vented outside. The steam and grease that does not go in the hood will end up on your cabinets, ceiling and all over your house. You have a beautiful kitchen, don't let it get ruined....See MoreHelp! Comments (1)No 4” ducted hoods. 6” is where it starts. 4” is a dryer duct, not a hood. You will need to enlarge your ducting. Rigid metal ducting ONLY....See Moreeugenie11
