Looking for dark brown Landmark roof for new construction

We need to choose a roof color for a new construction and are finding it very difficult to do using online photos only. We're looking for a dark brown similar to the photo attached

(we'll likely be emulating the entire color scheme). From the brown Landmark colors the only 2 that seem close are burnt sienna and heather blend (https://www.certainteed.com/residential-roofing/products/landmark/ ), but looking at actual pictures of houses with these roof colors online just shows significant variability; it's hard to tell which of these colors matches the one in the picture with any certainty. Anyone know which of these colors closely resembles the one in the picture?

We had a new roof put on our house in late January 2016. We chose Gerard Stone Coated Steel, in the Canyon Shake series. (Since then, the company was merged with Boral and the it is now known as Boral Steel Stone Coated Roofing; with the particular product known as Pine-Crest Shake. Color names are the same, although the color selection has been cut down to only six.) We looked at the colors online, and there were a few colors we really liked, and one in particular. Then we got a list of homes in the area that have Canyon Shake roofs, and the list indicated which color each home has. So, one weekend we spent hours driving around looking at roofs. And we were totally amazed that the roof color we thought we liked best from the online photos was the one we liked the least after seeing it in person. The color looked totally different. And we ended up choosing a color (Timberwood) that looked great in person, but we hadn't liked all that much when just viewing the photos on the website.

So, what you should do is contact roofers in your area and ask for a list of homes that have the product installed so that you can look at them in person. Make your color selection from what you see in person, not online.

I am going thru the same process with Landmark. My builder gave me sample boards for the ones I was interested in which helps. I agree that looking at actual roofs is the only way to see what you like.

I have one board with me now for Pewter. It has small samples of all the midwest options. What colors are available apparently vary by region, so first figure out what is available in your region.

Burnt Sienna and Heather Blend both have a lot of rust in them. I've seen one, not sure which one, on a roof and it looked very orange. The ones that look brownish are Weathered Wood and Mission Brown. Also Driftwood. However the small samples are only one 1.5 x 2.5 section of one tile, and Landmark has variation, so these samples may not be that representative. Every tile will have a different percentage mix of the colors of stone used.

Newhomebuilder, your home is very beautiful, thanks for posting the pic. I've loved Driftwood when I've seen it in pictures on other houses. In fact it always looks gray to me rather than brown in contrast to brick. But when I tried it on our house using CertainTeed Colorview it looked a little too brown. Re: slate blend vs. colonial slate...soliciting a bit more advice...it seems that slate blend might be at least a little bit better for our house. Just wondering how much better and would it be worth the extra trouble and $$s to get the slate blend to Virginia.

I’m no expert on roof colors, but I think that with your home’s siding also being gray, that a lighter roof color would brighten it up and make it stand out more. Just my opinion, but everyone’s tastes are different.

Get an off white garage door that looks similar to the siding. Garage doors shouldn’t be a focal point. I like your not-too-stark-white choice! I’m in total agreement with every “wait for the landscaping” comment. An “almost done” house looks awful because it resembles a box on dirt. Your landscaping plan will make this look great. This is similar to people who are midway into a kitchen remodel and start freaking out about something small because it’s not done. Your problem is just physically bigger, but it’s the same. Start reading what my friends and I call “Garden Porn”. It all the gardening catalogues that start coming around now! Get an appointment with a landscaping designer also. That will help you “see” the finished product. Keep us posted.
