Need help selecting a bamboo species
Comments (2)If you have running bamboo in a container, you will want some way to control it. I would recommend a two-tier system, with one 1-foot-deep box sitting on top of the dirt in a second, larger box. Clean out the dirt in the bottom trench and fill with large pine bark chips or even sand. A couple of times each year, check for errant rhizomes. This way, errant rhizomes will go deeper than the top planter and you can catch them before they start push the edges of your larger planter....See MoreDesperately need help with hedge/screen selection
Comments (6)My parents in Metairie have red tips (photinea) all around their back yard and they are fast grwoing and evergreen and can be pruned to be two feet wide. I also like loropetalum, but their shape is more like a crepe myrtle. They are also evergreen. I have some that were eighteen inch round balls that I planted two years ago and they are now over eight feet tall. They top out around ten to twelve feet and can be easily pruned. It might be hard for you to find them the size you want, but they grow really fast. (These are easily available most springs at the box stores and may be available out of town at box stores.) I also have two viburnum shrubs (I don't know the exact species) that I obtained from Wal Mart that are evergreen and very fast growing shrubs. The leaf texture is similar to a japanese plum but smaller. These were also purchased as a 1 gallon a few years ago and are over eight feet tall and can be easily pruned. They are against my house and they are easily pruned to keep them out of the walkway. There are some good nurseries by me in Lafourche Parish Louisiana if you are interested in driving, it will take you about forty five minutes from the airport. You can email me if you are interested and I can give you the names of the nurseries. You could call ahead to see what their stock is like. I don't know what is in stock but Perino's on Veterans is open per my mother....See MoreBacksplash grout color selection...really need opinions
Comments (8)If you do sample boards, be sure to let it dry, at least overnight, maybe another day. The grout lightens as it dries. Also, make sure to use the same type (sanded/unsanded) as you plan to use in the installation. The color can vary quite a bit between the two types. We used the same color of both types on a backsplash and a floor, and the color was not really the same. We installed the tile then decided on the grout. We liked the look of the lines between the tiles, so we went with slightly darker grout to show the pattern more. If you would rather have the pattern blend in, pick one closer to your tile color. Don't worry, you'll get through it. :)...See Moreneed help selecting a bed/headboard
Comments (7)I love the first one for a little girl and it will look great without a footboard just with that pretty headboard by itself. It will look even prettier if you have an eyelet bedskirt or some kind of bedskirt that is white. I have a bed with an Rustic Ivory Iron Headboard with no footboard due to the size of my bedroom and I am very happy I chose no footboard to make my room appear smaller with less walking room. If I had a big bedroom, I would love a footboard. I also had a Stanley Fiasco and despite missing the styling of the Cottage Revival Furniture (I loved the bun feet and beadboard sides that were really veneered wood over particle board but pretty.... I do not miss the mismatched furniture, peeling paint, spintered and chipped runner, holes in back of bureaus, and many other quality control issues) , I love the fact that my solid Maple Wood Durham Furniture (Royal Cottage in Sand White) came to me in such wonderful shape and MATCHING and did not waste 2 weeks of my time due to the poor quality control from Stanley and the Kearny, NJ store actually allowing furniture that was so mismatched in color with so much damage to be delivered to my home. I sure wish I found my new retail store in Flemington, NJ first since I am sure (based on what they told me and seeing how wonderful they were with my Durham Delivery) they would have never let furniture with that quality enter my home based on what they have told me when I showed them the pictures of the Stanley Furniture. Also The Durham furniture was ready in 6 weeks rather than 11 weeks like the Stanley Furniture....See MoreRelated Professionals
