STILL BLOOMING IN UPSTATE NY

Still have many plants pumping out blooms. Some of these I have yet to post this year.

ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN: I have concluded that this is a hybridizing plant. The blooms are more splotchy than not. When the blooms are good, they are good.

KRAKATOA LAVA: A nice older orange for the ML season.

YADA YADA YELLA: Massive 11 inch bloom today. A real standout in the late season garden.

SEARS TOWER: Super tall. This bloom is at eye level and I am 6"1".

TRANSYLVANIAN TANGO: Toothy red that just keeps putting out blooms. Will rebloom as I saw some new scapes coming.

LAURA HARWOOD: Can be splotchy at times.

SHOWTIME MAGIC: Probably my favorite non-pink Bud Bennett intro. It is a reliable rebloomer once established. Late season visitors are always requesting a piece of this one.

SUPERMODEL: Super plant.

David - I would agree with you about All Things to All Men being a hybridizing plant. I haven't had a bloom on it in two years that wasn't splotchy. So far, none of my seedlings with it as a parent have survived. I would be thrilled if I ever got a bloom that looked as good as yours. Do you have any seedlings from it?

I like the looks of Transylvania Tango, and Super Model looks like a doer in your garden.

I have had it for several years and the above pictured bloom is the last bloom of the year. It always improves by the time I am down to about 3 or 4 blooms. This has been the first year I used it. I put it on DESIRE OF NATIONS to see if I can get something that does not look like DON. The row of seedlings I currently have out of DON all look very similar to DON.

SUPERMODEL is an outstanding plant and all the blooms look the same day after day. It also increases well.

Transylvanian Tango has also been a very good plant. It is a little splotchy for about the first week it blooms, but then it gets it out of its system.

I have a few more to share today - the weather is lovely this morning, although I wish we'd get some rain. Hyperion, FFO - a wonderful oldie Unknown, from a White Flower Farm mix I bought years ago. It reminds me of 'Siloam Ury Winiford.' A dark bitone seedling, FFO today, tall and sturdy. I love the dark, wide petals. We'll see how it develops. Yet another yellow seedling. Pretty; I'll watch it. I can only keep so many "pretty yellow seedlings"! I'd rather have a handful of different ones to keep. The extra yellows can go grace my friend's farm. I have a muddy dog seedling, too - gotta get a few of those just by the law of averages, I suppose. Not quite as homely as the legendary "Doody Pants" and "Brown Trousers," but definitely not "AHS Next Top Model" either, lol! Laurel

Here was the star of the garden on Friday: PINEWOOD HOLY SMOKE: I love the clean and crispness of the colors. In the am at 6 shaded at 6 am After work Here is my seedling which will get moved from the seedling bed and planted in better location for observation. BEAUTY IN MOTION clump HEMAN: Thought it did not make it after I really divided it for sales last year. BIG HEARTED MOTHER being back lite by the morning sun. CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS: New last fall. Here it is with some sun and then shaded at 5:00pm. Not very tall (12"). I am hoping for increased height once it gets established. I hope to spend more time in the garden today. I have a couple of visitors coming today to tour the garden. David

I'm with everyone else on the Ellison seedling. I love that blended color and the ruffles. To add to that it has the "corduroy" texture on the petals and it looks like those petals have good substance. A multitude of pluses. If the color would hold in my heat, I'd rate it highly desirable..........I also like the Lemon Fringed Pastel, and the Chilled Orange Sorbet, but number one is that seedling on this post....................Maryl

For some plants, splotchiness seems to vary from year to year. Others always seem to be plagued. Thanks for the information.

It's a shame about All Things To All Men being splotchy and finicky about blooming. I really like the color. In my experience Splotchiness usually stays with the plant year after year. I'm thinking on a susceptible daylily it's the time of year it blooms that might account for some of it.. If Thrips are the culprit, then they come out in waves at different times during the year, and if yours consistently blooms during that same time you may have a problem every year. Of course Thrips don't read the train schedule so to speak, so some years you might just get lucky.......... I was glad to see Yada Yada Yellow. I've been tempted by it because it's such a late yellow. Davisson says it's her latest in her garden. If it was the rounded form I'd probably have gotten it by now, as it is I'll keep it on my list and see what others think about it ............Maryl

Lots of nice ones today, especially the purples.. Sears Tower is usually about eye level to me [5'10"] but this year it was a little short. Still a great show!
