please help before my cabinets are ruined
Comments (9)Thank you all for the great suggestions. I've since calmed down a bit, I think I was just having a panic attack b/c nothing in this project is going as planned (we bought a new home in Oct and gutted it, we are no where near finished and desperately want to be done). Regardless, the painters came yesterday and I gave them a bookshelf that will be part of the island that is going to be hand paint for me to look at. remodelfla , I like your idea of painting the side of the cabinet better, which will ultimately be covered by an end panel, but unfortunately they came before I was able to read your comments. As cheri127 said, I too have never seen anyone paint with a brush and have no marks so I am again second guessing my decision ¼. I figure I can always sand it down again if it is not the look I want. We put some of the paint they had matched on a piece of wood and let it dry and it matches the current base color of the cabinets really well. I am happy with the color, so at last we have that done. Now I need to figure out the glaze. cleo_2007, great suggestion. I had tried to get all this from the cabinet manufacturer (JSI Cabinetry) but they were unable to give me anything. Apparently these are made in China and it is not available. I was my cabinet co. was like yours. nodirthere, your kitchen is beautiful and the same look I am going for. I had come across your blog on the finished page looking around for ideas. Luckily my doors were already sprayed by the manufacturer and glazed and we like the look so we are not touching those. Only the boxes, stiles, rails, columns, trim and molding need to be painted. At least the doors will have a really nice clean finished look to them, I just want the boxes to match. I am attempted to add pictures for you to see, but am a novice at this so it did not work. Anyone know how? Thanks again for all your help. Comments (0)I found someone who will spray my kitchen cabinets. What are the right questions to ask to end up with a good result. I'll be painting cherry stained maple cabinets a white or off white color. He already told me he does 3 coats. 1 oil base primer and 2 top coats of oil base paint. Comments (11)brickeyee, millworkman & handymac, Thanks for all your suggestions. I called the cabinet company who made our cabinets to decribe the problem and ask their opinion. They asked me to bring in one of the boards he stained to see if there is a "quick fix". If not, he suggested replacing all the woodwork and sanding and restaining the doors. He said he could stain the pine woodwork in their shop to match the cabinets pretty well. What do you think about painting all the wood work and doors to exactly match the color of the walls which are beige? MJ...See MoreHELP! White painted cabinets ruined by painter!
Comments (36)Unfortunately we have already closed on the house. We closed on the 30th of September. The seller's had already given the restoration the insurance check. I think that because they had already moved they didn't really care too much about what was going on with the house. They didn't ever really get involved. Before, we closed the restoration company wasn't quite finished with everything but claimed that they would finish and it would be perfect and up to our standards. At that time we had them sign paperwork stating that they would finish up/ fix the work on the wood floors and cabinets. A new crew of wood floor guys came in today and were astonished at the condition of the wood floors. They are supposed to be coming back on Monday to repair the floors. They said the only thing that they could really do was replace the trim pieces and cut out the pieces that were buckling and inject them with glue. As for the spaces and scratches they said that they can repair that with wood putty and stain. Thoughts? The contractor right below the general contractor is supposed to come by today to re-assess the damage and see what can be done. Although they already did this last week before the touch up crew came in this week and it is basically in the same condition. The only thing they did was lightly sand and re-paint the cabinets. Based on your responses the whole cabinets need to be replaced. What should I tell the GC? He hasn't even came to walk the place himself, I guess I should send him a link to the photos as well? They claim I am being too picky and that I am wrong in expecting perfection from a raw product (wood). Maybe I should contact the insurance company as well?...See MoreGreenDesigns
